An amazing shopping mall with lots of famous and branded stores and good restaurants. Exterior Lighting at night is very nice and it's next to Kremlin . Recommend to visit while touring in moscow 👌 😀

Located in the heart of the Red Square, this shopping mall offers luxury clothing/lifestyle brands.
It also has a movie theatre and a ice skating ring if you need some recreational timeout!
The mall itself is a very pleasant walk as the ceiling is a highlight for many!
The mall is usually decorated and highlighted with lights making it very alluring, specially at night with the lights highlighting the façade of the building.
A must visit while you are at Red Square!

GUM isn't just a usual mall, this is like an interactive museum with lots of amazing decorations. Good brands shops, but the price there was a little bit high for me.

Every time I visit the Russian capital I take a brief visit stroll through this mall.
First time I was there with my parents, some 35 y ago in 80's. It was the same big, but supplied only with essentials for everyday life in a classic Socialist manner - hence the name Generalni Univerzalny Magazin. I remember I couldn't buy a pair of jeans there, as they simply hadn't them.
Over the years with political changes also the GUM changed.
This April I've visited Moscow for the 4th time. Today, it's a high end shopping mall, lavishly decorated both outside and inside. Inside you'll find big name brands like in any such mall in the world.
You cannot miss it as it stretches all the way along the Red Square.

GUM is always a great mall but dedicated to luxury brands. But just for a walk is always amazing. And this period, Christmas (in Russia new year) decoration is absolutely fantastic !

Festooned with xmas trees and decorations this month. Always something on display of interest. Very colourful and lots of photo opportunities. Very busy too but this visit was o a Saturday evening. Very different today from the GUM I saw in 1989!

GUM translates as Main Universal Store and was the most desirable store to visit in the Soviet Russia. The building itself is very historic and perfectly matches the surroundings such as the Red Square and St Basil Cathedral. Inside it’s just a shopping mall, beautiful interiors, but only very expensive brands sell there, so more for tourists than for locals.

One of the attractions by the Red Square is the 242m long building in Neo-Russian architectonic style, constructed at the end of the 19th century as a department store, which by then had become the fashion in many countries. GUM stands for 'Glavny Universalny Magazin' (Main Department Store). It functioned as a comsumer's temple also in Soviet times, except for the years of Stalin's rule, when it was used as space for offices. Today, privately owner, it should be called a 'Shopping Mall', selling mostly luxury brands.

The interior with its glass-vaulted arcade reminded me of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan. A difference here are the bridges between the two sides of galleries in the upper floors. At the center is a big octagonal fountain, in whose waters many watermelons for sale were floating, when I visited in summer. On one side there had also been an exhibition about the new 19km long Crimean Bridge over the Strait of Kerch.

Not far from here, on Teatralnaya Square, is the city's other famous shopping mall, the TSUM (Tsentralny Universalny Magazin), opened in early 20th century und built in Gothic revival style.

A stunning 19th century Shopping Mall at the heart of Moscow’s Red Square which is definitely worth a visit - especially in cold months like December
Try the ice cream on the ground floor - it's super famous and delicious (also very very affordable for every visitor)
