I walked from Borovitskaya metro station on the grey line 9, skirted the Kremlin along the banks of the Moscow river before ending up at St Basil’s on the edge of Red Square.

It was a truly breathtaking sight to see it in the flesh. Unfortunately I did not have an opportunity to go inside.

A very special place where there are so many fascinating buildings and statues to see.

This is an absolute must-see on any visit to Moscow. Situated right on Red Square, it’s a fantastic building, it’s one cathedral but made up of around a dozen individual chapels which are each dedicated to a different saint or historical event. Entry cost is 1,000 RUR. There was a male voice choir singing in there whilst I walked round, the acoustics are amazing. Very atmospheric. Enjoy!

Its a long time since I visited the cathedral but I remember it well. The Dorling kindersley guide to moscow had not been published then, which would have been useful as it does a cut away view of the interior.,I only had a very basic guide and the interior was confusing to say the least.I understand that it is 8 chapels built around a central are,but I felt claustrobic with all the little connecting pasages.Hopefully it is easier and clearer to visit now.Still well worth visiting.

Highly likely outside view of the Cathidral will impress you more than inside as it looks like magic Disney castle - very photogenic. Inside it looks much more simple if you compare to cathedral of christ the saviour, but unlike the cathedral of christ the saviour all inside are ancient, you can feel the history.

This world famous Cathedral is definitely the most photographed edifice in Russian capital, as well a symbol and a main landmark.
It stands on the Red Sq across the main entry tower to Kremlin. The Church was built in the middle of the 16c on Ivan the Terrible orders to glorify his conquest of Kazan (todays Tatarstan Republic of Russia).
The exterior is absolutely amazing and unique. It consist of 8 separate small Churches/chapels each with a different color onion dome, gathered around the central big one. According to a legend Ivan the Terrible blinded the constructor after the completion in order never to built such a beauty again.
However, the interior I didn't find so beautiful - it's rather a maze of twisted narrow corridors and small sacred rooms, therefore I reduced one star.

Everyone recognises the outside of the Cathedral, but inside it's a warren of corridors, small rooms on many floors and religious artifacts. Most of the information is in English as well as Russian, and there are audio tours available. There are many rooms to visit with numerous paintings and artifacts from centuries ago. There's also a small gift shop.
