Breathtaking

The red square is huge, it is surrounded by beautiful buildings and churches. It is definitely one of the most beautiful squares in the world. A most visit when in Moscow! It is recommended to visit early so it is a bit less crowded.

Have a cup of coffee at GUM after. Also, consider it to be the cleanest part of Russia. Support Putin, love Russians.

One of world's iconic squares
Apr 2021
Every time I visit Moscow, and this was the fourth time, there's no chance to miss this sq. It's one of the most famous and beautiful squares in the world.
History and stunning architecture interfere here - the iconic Kremlin walls, the Lenin mausoleum, the fascinating St. Basil Cathedral, the high end GUM mall, History museum,...all of them are here.
Day or night, it's always packed with people and activity here, really a must do.

Stunning architecture!
May 2020
The square was entertaining, however, the best part of it was the short walk down to the river and eating at a restaurant overlooking the river. Can’t remember the name of it, however, it looked like a space ship and the waitresses were dressed like flight attendants. This restaurant had by far the most exceptional food and service in all of Russia!

Historic and Awe Inspiring
Feb 2021
There's a real sense of history, the massive square framed by Kremlin walls and GUM store, with St Basil's Cathedral at the far end and Lenin's Mauseleum. Its a huge space, containing a skating rink while we were there, but with huge wide open areas still available. There is sigificant security before entering and a lot of security in the square, but its not a problem. Make sure you have a guide book with you or have some knowledge of the square to ensure that you know what's where, what the various statues signify, and the general history of the square. Then its quite an awe inspiring place, and really should be the number one place to visit in Moscow. Allow an hour , depending on time of year and number of tourists, and depending on whether you are planning to visit inside St Basil's, Lenin's Mauseleum. And GUM is a great place for a pit stop.

One of my favorite corners in Moscow. It’s stunning! I love the festive atmosphere . It’s ice skating rink for whole winter but you must buy the tickets online beforehand otherwise no chance to enjoy it . Plenty of souvenirs shops , expensive brands boutiques.

Red Square & St. Basil's.
Feb 2020 • Family
January in Moscow is cold.
Very cold. Lots of snow, wind & ice.
Went to Red Square & St. Basils, it cost just a few rubles to go inside St. Basils but a lovely old church.

At that time of year the court yard of Red Square has lots of merchants selling Orthodox Christmas gifts to unsuspecting tourists.

If you can haggle you may get a bargain. Like a Rabbit or Fox fur Ushanka for about 4000 rubles.
Less than US$60.

Having your photo taken with these two Mario brothers cross Stalin look alikes will set you back about 1000 rubles each. I negotiated 500 rubles about US$7.00.

But be sure to work out the price before the photo or they will ask for as much as they can get out of you.

A word of warning to my American & British friends. No matter where I went the Moscovites were a little stand offish thinking that I was American or British. Once they found out I was Australian they were very friendly.
