We visited this Mactan Shrine on our 4th and last night in Cebu, hastily done in a hurry so I didn't see the surroundings well as some parts of the plaza are not well lighted. Lapu Lapu Hymn is played continuously during the night and...More

Insight: One of the greatest injustice to a true Hero. Lapu Lapu is an early Hero who killed Magellan, a Spanish Conquestadores. A show of raw courage against superior weapons and an act of patriotism.

Went to visit the shrine with a guide who gave us the history of Lapu-Lapu. Very interesting. There are some tourists shops around the square to get souvenirs.

Great (and essential) to learn the story of Lapu Lapu and some history of the Filipino, but not necessary to visit the statue. Statue itself seems quite modern and its surroundings are lacking - mostly stalls selling t-shirts and other modern souvenirs.

Bought a T shirt souvenir here. Great value. The shirts are screen printed while you wait. Also see the guy that sells hand painted cups. Get your name on it and all hand painted for only 200 pesos.
