Visited with my wife having booked with condor travel. I had read mixed reviews but my wife wanted to visit. Yes it is touristy but the people we met were all very genuine yes they will try to sell you some souvenirs but hey all...More

These people actually construct these islands from materials in the lake and they fashion beautiful textile items. I am so thrilled I had the opportunity to visit this place and learn about their lives. They are beautiful people.

An essential part of this area is a tour of the Uros Islands. So amazing to see how people can and do live like this for generations. Experiencing walking about and chatting with the people about how they live there is great fun.

First, let me say some of the islands are set up as “tourist traps”, but if you can look past that, the history of the culture and the way they built their islands and how they lived. If you really want to get away from...More

Titilaka, which is the lux boutique hotel where we stayed offers its guests a number of excursions daily, including a visit to the two aforementioned islands in a private boat. A group of about eight of us traveled about 1 1/2 hours to get away...More

I did the tours despite all the warnings from other travellers and regretted it immediately. A motor boat takes you over a small part of the lake (this was my favourite part because the scenery was very nice) to the floating islands. The islands itself...More

We opted for a homestay on Uros, instead of doing a tourist boat trip. I highly recommend staying the night on an island with a local family and learning about the native Aymara culture. The island structure is fascinating and is definitely worth a visit....More

There are 36 natural islands in Lake Titicaca and 97 floating islands and still growing. Our first stop is to actually walk on one of Uros’ 97 floating islands and to attempt to communicate with these people who only speak Aymara. Roughly 2,500 people live...More

As long as you know this is an enormously touristy mess it is still worth it and still fun. Do not believe them when they tell you they are making all those handicrafts out there though. That stuff is made in factories in Julissa en...More

Tour boat organized by hotel that goes to Uros then after the tour of floating islands it goes to Taquile island. Careful at the floating islands as it is more of a tourist trap but Taquile is exceptional and worth the trip

I didn't find it 'touristy'. In fact I liked to contribute to the community. I had a 2.5 hour tour, which was enough for me, but it would be nicer to stay on the island than stay in Puno town. I spoke to one couple who... More

The boats are mostly leaving in the morning, I guess spending a night in Puno instead is the option.
