So many people recommended this place but it was the worst tourist experience in four years of living in Oman.
We arrived shortly after opening. We had understood that for a small fee we could be driven round the archaeological park in a golf buggy (important because we have a 6 year old and it was a very hot day). And we saw lots of golf buggies and staff. But they laughed and refused to drive us and said we had to walk.
So with no map off we headed into the park assuming it would be easy to navigate a short walk and then come back before we got too hot. We realised about 20 mins in that we had headed down an extremely long path which had no shaded areas at all. There was also nowhere to sit and nowhere to refill water bottles. Our son started to feel weak and so we tried to walk on as fast as we could but there was no way to cut the journey short - it was unclear whether it was quicker to turn back or keep going. We kept going and encountered lots of wild dogs. My son nearly collapsed from the heat and there was nothing we could do but carry him back because there was nowhere to rest.
When we got back I asked the park/museum guard for somewhere to get water urgently. He laughed and pointed to a door to a cafe. This door took us outside in the sun again for a 2-minute walk to a cafe. And it was closed. The men standing around could see we were desperate but they just indicated everywhere was closed because of COVID. And yet the museum itself was open, so I think this was a lie.
We decided we had had enough of the place. We didn’t walk around the museum at all. The staff were rude, unhelpful, lazy and seemed not to want to do anything to help a small child in urgent need of water. Their behaviour and attitude towards us was disgraceful.

A well presented museum that highlighted the trade routes that have used Salalah over the centuries.
The model demonstrating the the ingenious water supply for the city was super.
My favourite display was a letter of complaint written before the common era (BC). Showing that goods were still being delivered to wrong addresses. Some things don't change

A must for lovers of history and culture! This museum features various halls with exhibitions about Oman's history, culture and its famed francincense. While you're there, make sure to touch the meteorites on display.

During the last Eid Al Adha holidays we dared to travel by car to Salalah from Abu Dhabi.Beside traveling to the Prophet's shrines we chose to visit the much adorable Museum of the Frankincense land. Even though it's small but is of much significance. I loved most the historic letter of our Holy Prophet (SM) to the then Omani rulers to accept Islam. The replica of the Fortress of Bahia of pre Islamic period, the display of boat building tools, the stone balls of 16th century and the Park were great

This site was a wonderful way to be introduced to Omani history and culture. It is located at the historical port used to transport frankincense. Exhibits in the museum included one on frankincense, historical site throughout Oman, 3D models of various buildings in the Sultanate, as well as new one on meteorites that have impacted the country.
After visiting the museum, you can take a golf cart ride around the historical site. Be sure to check out the small shops on the property in the back! Prices are competitive!

Two small but great museums that provide a comprehensive understanding of Oman and Salalah, especially the ntwo cultural pillars of seafaring and frankincense trade. The displays are very creative and educational. Definitely the best part of Salalah.
I deduct one point because they don't accept cash for tickets which is inconvenient.

A very nice museum with some interactive exhibits in the frankincense section. The miniatures and Islamic exhibits are very nice as well.
The outside tour of the old Mosques which are built on relics from the Iron Age can be visited on a
Small buggy ride. This requires and additional ticket but a convenient way to cover the entire area.
Close to Al Hafa old souq. Better to rent a car to access the Museum. Please check opening hours before visiting.

I actually loved it and it was better then expected. Not so much about Frankincense but more the history of the country. I think it’s well worth a visit. I stayed at the Anatara resort and took the boat the hotel has to the museum. It has to be pre booked at 10 Riyals return.
