We were staying in a hotel directly across from the waterfront. Nice to go out in the morning and sit and watch the flamingos. Very peaceful until the big trucks from the salt factory start coming past!
Fine birdwatching! It is quite worthwhile walking along the shoreline as well and have a picnic in the park. The tiny harbor is still in a pre-too-touristy-state. Hopefully the plan to get in large cruise ships won't succeed...
Seeing the pelican birds up close was rather enlightening - one doesn't realise just how large their mouths are. As for the waterfront - certainly a hive of activity and a good attraction for tourists. Further development will certainly generate the commerce so desperately required...More

If you drive a little south of Walvis Bay you can find a shockingly large number of Flamingos and other birds. The waterfront at Walvis Bay is also really nice however while I was there it wasn't really to see the "urban" areas of Namibia...More
Sheltered lagoon very close to the industrial hub of Walvis bay. Lots of flamingos quite close to the shore and seal swimming in the distance. Pleasant walk along the shoreline and an ideal place for a picnic.
Loved the Seals,pelican & Flamingo's.Good scenery.best to wear warm clothes at most times. it can get cold and misty.the are near by restaurants if you wish to sip a hot cup or so dine. Better to be vigilant and watch your space and movements around...More
