This was my second time on the Historian Quadbike tour as I had to take my husband who wasn't with me the first time around. There aren't any other tours that visit this part of the desert and make it so interesting at the same time. The traditional quadbike tours near Swakopmund and Long Beach are just quadbike tours, this is much more than that.
Fanie explains what this area looked like many years ago and how it changed since then. We learn about how the animals (buffalo, elephant, antelope and many more) and people survived in an area now covered by a sea of dunes. We explore the remnants of the past life and responsibly examine old graveyards, discovering ancient skeletons which are slowly coming to the surface as the wind carries the sand in different directions. The interesting part is that the second time I took the tour different skeletons were revealed (I took the tour about 4 years apart). Fanie also prides himself in being accurate about the information he passes on and consults with experts where necessary. His aim is to educate and preserve this region which not many locals know about.
We enjoyed the tour thoroughly, not only for the insight but also for a chance to do some quad biking in the desert.

Thank you Corinna for this excellent review, prescribing some of the ancient sights that you experienced. I always try to show new things when people do my tour for a second or consecutive time. The fast moving dunes help me in this a great way as they expose new things all the time.
See you next time.

A group of sixty plus friends did a quad bike and dune tour with Fanie Du Preez from this company. Fanie was very helpful in us mastering the quad bikes, and his dune tour was fascinating. He educated us on all of the dune creatures and flora. He has an extensive knowledge of past communities who lived in the area hundreds of years ago, and we were shown many artefacts from this time. I highly recommend using this company to do a quad bike experience and to learn about the secrets of the dunes .

For the second year in a row we decided to do the Kuiseb Delta Adventures Historical tour this past December, and it was even better than the first time. As with the previous year we met our guide Fanie early the morning of the excursion and got a detailed safety and technical briefing of what was to follow, after that he began with a great overview of the history and topography of the region we were going to explore ( I have yet to meet someone with as much knowledge of the region as Fanie) with that part covered we mounted our quad bikes and set of on our adventure of the day (and an adventure it is) every part of the way new and exiting fauna and flora awaits you with all their functions and some oddities explained in detail, from local wildlife to ancient footprints and bones of lost civilizations, its also not all just educational as there is some fun to be had going up and down some wonderful dunes along the way. I would recommend this trip to anyone that wishes to know more about the region and has an adventurous side. Me and my family and friends will be going back every year as this is definitely our highlight on every trip, not to mention the fact that every year the desert opens up new and exiting discoveries not seen previously. GO SEE FOR YOURSELF

This was one of the highlights of our visit to Namibia and we can highly recommend it!! Fanie is an excellent guide: he has an immense knowledge about the history of the area and of course also about the desert, the animals living there, etc. And even more, he is a brilliant quad driving instructor! When you do quad driving for the 1st time (like we did) and you are standing at the edge of the dune looking down, you get a bit scared ... But no worries, just follow his simple instructions and let you and your quad slide down - it is so much fun!! Don't forget to bring sunglasses, sunscreen, light gloves, a hat and a scarf as protection against sun, wind and sand. Surprisingly, there's a lot around :-)) And then: just enjoy!!!

Fanie took two friends and myself on a 4-hour trip in the Namibian desert located nearby Walvis Bay.
Despite the recreational quad activities (like dune slide), Fanie took the time to share his knowledge in the desert about animals, centennial graveyards, vegetation and Namibian history.
The full trop was a mesh of Fanie's explanation and driving within the dunes in the desert.
Fanie is a very knowledgeable guide and he will teach you a lot during this tour. I am glad to have booked with him and to have met him.
Thanks a lot again Fanie

Thanks Fanie for an unforgettable trip! It is a lot of fun to ride with the quad bike in the dunes! Although I was very scared at the beginning, due to the professional guidance from Fanie who showed us how to drive I became very confident, enjoying myself! Fanie introduced us before going on the trip about the important historical facts which made it more understandable how the coast of Namibia developed over a long period of time. Then we drove to explore firstly the salt water planes in the dunes and then the sweet water middens where Fanie explained and showed us the most amazing tracks of animals and people. It was the most fantastic tour in a long time!

If you were looking for a quad tour different from any other trip you can book in that region that one could be your goal. Fanie is not just a tour guide, he is THE expert regarding historic human settlement and early life in the Kuiseb Delta. Fanie showed us the beauty and the secrets of the Namib desert, an unforgettable experience and certainly among the most impressive hours of our entire trip to Namibia.

It was our second time doing the tour and again it was very informative and fun. I highly recommend this tour to anyone travelling to the coast to enjoy the historical experience on a quad bike. Great combination! This time the East wind chased us out of the desert which is also a rare experience.

We went on Fanie's historic quad bike tour in November 2022, and it was a simply great 3 hours. My wife was not at all confident of riding a quad bike, and Fanie put her at ease, and with some simple instructions soon had her speeding across the dunes! The knowledge Fanie had of the area and what we were seeing was simply amazing. He knew about all the wildlife that we saw, the plants and the insects too. Add to that his explanation on the various sites of evidence of human habitation, from explaining the remains found at sites, to the pottery and artefacts that simply lay there for you to see on the desert floor, it was a great 3 hours. As a combination of education and adventure, hard to beat. Well done Fanie!

Worth the money! The tour was an excellent mix of adventure (quadbiking) and education (we learned a lot and saw very cool things:human graves and insects). Especially the guide was very good, during our tour he pulled a snake from under the sand in one go. I give the tour 5 stars!

My son is 10- would he be able to do this? he is very fit and active!! We will be there on the 27th April?

I have found that usually children younger than 12 years old, with no previous experience of quad driving, is not able to drive this tour on his/her own. A ten year old with ample prior quad driving experience, like owning their own quad at home, can drive the tour. Children, younger than 12 drive double with an adult.

Can a 70 year old grandmother ride the bikes with no problem?
Written 26 November 2015
It totally depends on the individual person. If she is full of life and active, she should be okay. If she is very frail and not active anymore, she should rather not do the tour, because she must be able to hold the handles of the quad tight, even when she rides over uneven parts in the sand.
A person who has a fear for heights, can definitely not do this tour.
The oldest person who did my tour, was 89, but a very strong and active 89. Persons in their sixties, find this tour easy.
