We are now 24 hours home after the most magnificent adventure with Truly Africa Tours. Our group of 4 persons (2 couples) have spent 14 days touring with flights arranged, land travel, accommodations, transfers in four different locations- and every single element of these travel arrangements were better than perfect.
The first stop of the holiday at Victoria Falls included a guided tour of the Falls area, and a cruise on the Zambezi river in the afternoon and into the sunset- wined and dined. Absolutely memorable and smoothly organised, with vouchers ready at the hotel reception for our activities. The hotel itself was beautiful- the David Livingstone Lodge- also selected by Truly Africa Tours.
We moved (by perfect transfer) to Kisane/Chobe and stayed in the The Old House B&B, adjacent to the Chobe river, with their very own warthog population on site. Again, the transfers and accommodation were all arranged by Truly Africa and were seamless. The Old House was a change in venue to the original booking- but turned out to be a real treat. The place had its own small boat for safari cruises (which were included in the package- and BRILLIANT). We also did driving safari in Kasane- again way beyond expectation, with a lovely coffee stop in the bush in the early morning.
Transfer from Kasane to the Okavango Delta (Oddballs camp) was via private air transfer. We were treated like royalty- handed over to the pilot (at Kasane airport) and taken directly to Oddballs camp.
Several days in Oddballs were filled with walking and canoe (wooden dug out crafts- Mokoro) safaris, and totally excellent meals. Again, way beyond our expectation in terms of organisation. Transfers out of the area were just as skilful, with private flights to Maun. We moved on to Namibia (via Johannesburg)- all organised by Truly Africa Tours. All super organised.
Arriving at Windhoek we were met by Martinez (which we shorted to Martin) and Linkie- both involved with the transfer to Sossousvlei (Sesreim camp). I had upset tummy and a visit to the doctor was arranged by our guides, at short notice, and in the most accommodating manner. After a restful night in the Vineyard B&B, we drove to Sesreim- a 5 hour journey, broken up with excellent pit stops, and fed with information about the area. Martin is a most knowledgeable and kind guide.
The camp at Sesreim was unbelievable. The lads set up tents, made up stretcher like beds and cooked magnificent meals (No Exaggeration). Breakfast had cooked mushrooms, scrambled eggs, fried eggs, omelette, bacon, toast, cereals, juices, fresh fruit, tea/coffee. An endless supply of bottled drinking water was there for us. We were taken to Sesreim Canyon for a walk on day 1 and to the glorious and stunningly beautiful dunes at Sossousvlei to climb at sunrise. A breakfast was cooked at the foot of Dune 45 after the climb, then on to Deadvlei.
After three days, we were transferred back to Windhoek airport by the patient and incredibly capable Martin. The level of skill and organisation which we experienced on this trip, together with the fabulous food deserve all the superlatives in the above description. Beyond words- Perfect. Thank you Kate for your wonderful organising and Martin & Linkie for the terrific guiding, cooking and care. We will be back!!!

My partner and I travelled around South Africa, Botswana and Zambia with Truly Africa. Kate was our Travel Consultant and she was brilliant. Any issues we had, she did her absolutely best to rectify the situation immediately - which exceeded our expectations.

The planning for our trip was seamless; nothing was a problem and the trip was totally flexible around our schedule and requirements.

Kate is a total professional and I will definitely be using Truly Africa for any of our upcoming future African holidays.

Thank you again! You helped make this amazing trip even more special!

We had the best experience using Kate from Truly Africa to plan our first trip to Southern Africa. For 12 days we visited Botswana, Zambia and South Africa. Kate took care of everything. We just told her what we wanted to experience and she arranged all our accommodations, activities, transportation and domestic flights. Kate even checked in on us while we were in Africa to make sure we were okay and moving along the itinerary smoothly. We never had to worry about anything. We had all our pick-ups on time, everyone was friendly and each accommodation was comfortable, safe and secure. We would definitely recommend using Truly Africa to plan your trip. Just ask for Kate!

Just returned home from the most fantastic adventure due mainly to the good fortune of friends recommending Truly Africa. The itinerary they organised for our eleven days was exceptional mixing majestic scenery, great wild life viewing in three very different environments and excellent accommodation all the way. To top this off we had Martin, Martin's rapport with the locals wherever we went meant we were greeted with broad smiles and extra warmth. We are a couple in our seventies, travelling with Martin was like travelling with a very caring son with an extensive knowledge of the people and wild life we encountered. This was a private tour at a lower cost than the group tours we were contemplating before receiving the recommendation to go with Truly Africa, advice I am only too happy to pass on.

Kate at Truly Africa very patiently walked us thru the options for our short but fantastic10-day trip from Johannesburg thru Blyde Canyon and Kruger Park environs, including a side-trip to Livingstone for Victoria Falls and the river, plus air connections. She and her colleagues worked hard to include as much as possible, diligently following our wishes for camping and other low-rent accommodations. We were lucky to have the Truly Africa owner Linkie G as our guide -- his experience and depth of knowledge added to the trip every step of the way. He adjusted the schedule on-the-fly to meet our desire for hiking and exercise, and managed to fit in many bush walks and drives despite the sometimes-unpredictable camp schedules. Nobody sets up camp as quickly and efficiently as Linkie, and he's a good cook too! After we flew to Cape Town for touring on our own, Linkie followed up with an offer to connect us with his botanist cousin for hiking around Hermanus. The only negative was not enough time -- next visit must be at least 3-4 weeks.

P.S.: We encountered another Truly Africa group led by Martin, who seemed to be great fun -- he got me started on "rusk" and now I'm ordering Ouma from Amazon.

This was an excellent trip, Colleen was the greatest guide ! A very skilled driver and so very knowledgeable about all the flora and fauna. Kate was so very helpful, efficient, accommodating. I would highly recommend this company. We also had a private tour of Cape Point and wine tour out of Cape Town first which was also very well organized.

I have just returned from a 3.5 week trip to South Africa, Zambia and Botswana organized by Kate at Truly Africa Tours. The whole experience was very enjoyable and unforgettable. We had some personal setbacks that arised during the trip but the guides (Colleen and Hugo) as well as Kate were able to accommodate any changes and requests that we had. We started in Cape Town and then travelled to Livingstone, Chobe, Maun/Okavango Delta, Kruger and Durban. Some of the airport transfers were confusing but it was all sorted out in the end. Colleen and Hugo were amazing and very knowledgeable of the geography, flora and fauna of each region we visited. The weather is cooler in Cape Town during August but still quite warm in Botswana and Zambia (~25 degrees day time). I would highly recommend Truly Africa tours for small-medium private groups who want customizable and flexible tours. Thanks to everyone at Truly Africa!

A certain organized tour to which we had registered was cancelled on us, so we went on line to search for a private tour. What a stroke of luck that was!! We ended up having the most unbelievable trip and safari with Truly Africa Tours, just my wife, me, and our guide Linkie. Our expectations were high, and yet they were vastly exceeded by the wonderful experience in Namibia (about two weeks), Botswana & Zimbabwe (two more weeks).

THE PLANNING: Somewhat pressured, we've contacted several companies that we found on line, and Kate, from Truly Africa Tours, responded most promptly, with great detail. After we emailed her a sketchily possible itinerary, she responded with a detailed one, which included suggested lodges (for each she included the corresponding link, so we could easily check it out!), included description of the day's activities and meals, and the number of miles we were expected to cover each day.

Kate was truly fantastic. I spoke with her twice on the phone, and found her to be unusually friendly and helpful. We tweaked most of the choices through emailing each other back and forth. Despite the time difference between South Africa and Boston, she always managed to answer within hours. Unbelievable service!

THEN ITINERARY: The trip proved to be a smashing success. There is no place where we felt that we stayed too little, or for too long. All the transitions were smooth and worked like a clock. As a matter of fact, about ten days before our departure I discovered that I had made an error and informed her the wrong date of arrival (a day too early); Kate had to change all the accommodations and move them forward by a day – which she did successfully, and without complaining (although it was my mistake). It even resulted in improving our accommodations at Etosha National Park (Namibia), so we ended up with a priority cabin sitting practically yards from the main attraction – the superb water hole where herds of elephants, antelopes of various kinds, giraffes, zebras, birds, and even rhinoceroses congregate throughout the day and night. Fantastic!

THE LODGES: we selected a couple of upper-end lodges, and mostly middle-range ones, and they all were truly excellent. Going through Kate suggestion, the lodges' websites, and TripAdisor proved to be a fail-safe process.

THE GUIDE: Linkie, who is also the owner of the company, was an incredible guide.
Safety first: altogether Linkie drove about 3,000 miles (5,000 km), both my wife and I felt very safe with him. The car he chose was a new, very comfortable Nissan SUV. He really knows how to drive those roads. They are very often very good, yet unpaved, so one has to know how to avoid dips and bumps – which Linkie did incredibly well.

Linkie is very knowledgeable about Southern Africa, and could tell us many interesting things especially about the animals and the birds. He is friendly, yet a relatively quiet person. Linkie is not a chatterbox, and he is not one of those guides that tire you by never stop talking. When you ask him a question, he would respond with interesting information, but he is not imposing himself, and often lets you sit, enjoy what you see, and absorb it all. Linkie is also simply a very nice person – gentle, helpful, and considerate. It seemed like he was genuinely excited to be in the parks with us, had his own camera and excitedly took pictures, just like us! It all felt that he was more than just a guide, but rather also a good travel companion. The only problem is that now we miss him. . .

As I re-read my review, I get a feeling that it sounds too good to be true. But as I scratch my head to find a negative thing to say, I frankly cannot find anything. My wife and I have traveled a lot in the last few years to faraway places; I must say that this was the best-planned and best-executed trip we've taken so far.

We were guided around South Africa by Linkie and Colleen and they did an amazing job of showing us all the sights. They picked us up from the airport and we drove around South Africa and Kruger Park for 7 days. Linkie and Colleen knew everything about the animals and they could spot them from a mile away. They cooked for us and the meals were delicious. We saw so many great sights and we were very pleased with everything the tour had to offer. It was a great experience for the whole family and I recommend this tour to everyone with kids or without. We certainly won't forget it for a very long time. Thank you Truly Africa Tours!!!
