A good early example of Nara era architecture however it tends to get lost among all the others. Not a lot to recommend it really. Nice main image, all the paraphernalia, etc., but love the stone Buddhas outside nestling quietly among the flowers.

Diminished, apparently, from once major status, now a smaller somewhat neglected temple but it still has a very calm atmosphere, good proportions, and features a small museum on the grounds with an impressive miniature pagoda. Seems to be free of the bus tours that are...More

Located among the narrow streets of the Naramachi district, often overlooked, It is one of the most ancient temples in Japan. All that remains is only a small part of what it used to be. Although not as famous as Horyuji Temple (法隆寺), Todaiji Temple...More

There’s a serene spirit within this temple and especially calming on a hot day. Certainly worth visiting.

Although little is left from the original building it is still amazing to see the first Buddhist temple from 588. A real must see on any trip to Nara. Much less crowded than other sights but very peaceful and beautiful.

We had half a day in Nara, and after battling with the crowds at Todaiji temple and Kasuga shrine, it was such a pleasure to visit this one which we had all to ourselves- no tourist buses here. It has a wonderful zen feel, very...More

Most likely the largest wooden building in the world, its a must visit for all who are st Nara! It is within walking distant of Nara Park and surrounded by many other shops. At this place, you will continue to see deer mingling with tourists.

This temple is so peaceful and quiet yet so magnificent on the inside. We sat inside the temple where there were two different places which explained how to do meditation and what it means. There is also another building that has lots of artifacts and...More
