I have just visited Shosha mountain which was suggested by my Japanese friends. The rope way (Yen 900 roundtrip) quickly hauls you onto the top of the mountain. From there it is an easy 20 minute walk to the main temples. These are stunningly located...More

The ropeway has two large gondolas, one that starts at the top and one that starts at the bottom. They are crammed full of people and they were so crowded that I didn't actually get to see the scenic views on the way up. There...More

Get the combined ticket from the bus loop information office at the far side of the loop when you exit the jr himeji station.

We took it one way, going up. Good thing as coming down was treacherous. Rocky, steep slopes, slippery gravel but astoundingly gorgeous. A tram is a tram, but this one is unique, great staff, punctual, and decent English. Great shrine at the top.

Tickets to the cable car ride, (600Y one-way, 1000Y round trip) can be purchased from the vending machine a short distance from the bus stop. A helpful staffmember guides visitors in using this machine. The rides, quick and orderly, are offered every half hour. There...More

Spare yourself the hike up the mountain and take the ropeway which brings you 800 meters away from the summit. Then hike up to the main hall, the gentle and sloping ascent with great views is rewarding.

As far as I know this is the only way to get up to the temple. The ride is smooth and doesn't take too long. I can tend to be a bit claustrophobic and afraid of heights but it didn't happen so that was a...More

This is a great way to admire the beauty of Shoshazan if you don't want to hike. You can see the 360 degree view from the cabin. Very scenic, very cool, esp in Autumn.
