A nice day-hike from Tokyo
Jan 2017 • Solo
I test my hiking legs once a year on this end-point to Mt. Jimba. It is a lovely hike up and down two other mountains, Shiro-yama and Kagenobu. Signposts are not readily available in English but if you need help, just ask someone and they will always point you in the right direction. When you spot the white horse on the summit you know you are there. From Takao Station to Mt. Jimba is a tad over 16kms.

Challenging hike and nice views
Sep 2012 • Solo
I've run here twice from the Takao side, via Kobotoge Pass. It can be more challenging if you up and over every summit along the way. There are usually side trails around the summits that connect back to the main trail. The Summit itself has several places to eat or enjoy a picnic lunch. 360 degree views. Very hot up there in the summer.

Worth while, but a long hike
Sep 2012 • Solo
If you have a full day and if the weather is clear hiking to the top of Jinba San is worth doing. To get there board the bus for Jinba San 陣馬山 at the front bus stop on the north entrance to Takao Station. Note there is only one bus per hour and I do not remember the time it runs, check the Nishi Tokyo Bus Line Schedule for the departure times.

From the end of the bus lines it is a simple matter of following the paved road up to the top of the pass where there is a small, probably seasonal snack bar. Noodles, soda, beer and candy and not much else available which is not a surprise. Behind and to the left of the snack bar is a trail to the top of the mountain when you come to the world's ugliest statue of a horse you will know you are there.

The view on a clear day, remember my first sentence, is stunning from Tokyo to Fuji San and beyond. Before heading up check the bus schedule for the last bus back to Takao or it is a long hike since the bus stop is about 45 minutes from Takao Station. It used to leave at about 5:00 pm but that was a while back when I hiked to the peak. Lots of Japanese hikers, very few non-natives but that is part of the adventure.

Not a difficult hike but plan on spending all day doing it including the bus ride.
