We took the train from JR Sapporo to Otaru. There’s semi rapid train that will take you there under 40 minutes. Once arrived, Otaru Canal is 20 minutes walk. The seaside harbour town is dotted with brick buildings and greenery. Any angle you photograph Otaru...More

Canal is so so, the view is normal. But the food around is good, go around and try their crab or other seafood. If you are with elderly or young children, you can take a cab to another street with letao and music museum etc

Landmark of Otaru. Nice to go for a walk either during the day or at night. There are also a few artists selling own-designed postcards and pictures on the side. If you have time, may consider taking the canal cruise.

Different view when snowing. Shops along the street. Do not miss the crystal shop which my tour guide did not highlight to us. Went there during daylight. But would be nice to be there in night. Safe environment though is tourist spot.

If the rapid trains are running, the JR train from Sapporo to Otaru is only about 30minutes, hence plenty of time for day trip. However, if traveling during the winter season, please check train schedules as there were bad... More
