Hakodate morning market was wonderful. Our family of 3 spent 2 great mornings roaming inside Ekini Market, and the surrounding stalls outside. Plenty of fresh seafood and sashimi at v reasonable prices, for the fanstatic quality! The melons here are great too! Try the squid...More

A nice clean store comprised of various vendors located in the open market area of Hakodate. Products of many vendors are similar so you're basically looking for the best deal available.

I cannot describe well enough how fresh the seafood in this market is. It is as live to plate as it can be, especially the dancing squid that you can catch for yourself and have the stall owner cut it up for you and serve.

We had our breakfast here and loved the live King Crab we had even though the pricing was really quite mind-boggling. Never eaten such an expensive breakfast before in my life! It was worth every penny though and the crab was so big & sweet!...More

Although seafood is not "my thing", this was an interesting place. It was packed with locals as well as tourists and had every kind of sea species on show - both alive and dead. Very clean. Interesting!

In this place you will see every variety of fish and seafood. Watch the locals use tiny fishing rods to fish for squid. The squid is taken to a counter where it's head gets chopped off and the body gets sliced and served raw. Look...More

More 'sanitized' as compared to those stalls by the roadside, who are subject to the elements, so this indoor market makes sense, in a way. Great atmosphere, lots of stalls to sample almost everything Hakodate has to offer. Ate the great scallops, uni and melons....More

The market is just the right size. Not too big where you can get lost like Tsukiji but not too small that you might miss things.

From the port to Hakodate morning market, it is ten minutes by taxi. But, for you, an extra bus will run. Please enjoy sightseeing in Hakodate.
