The Old Public Hall of Hakodate Ward is situated further up from Motomachi Park. This American colonial style two story building was constructed in 1910 after the former public hall was lost in the great fire of 1907. There’s a good English brochure available on...More

This is one of my favorite buildings in Hakodate’s Momochi area because of its architecture, yellow color, large wooden floors, and the view of the city from its balconies. If you are into old buildings, this is one of the best in the city. Construction...More

Nice views from balcony, and I got some interesting shots of a couple of women who'd paid to dress up in Victorian fashion (available in one of the rooms for an extra fee). Some of the rooms have original furnishings from the era of early...More

The Old Public Hall of Hakodate Ward commands a panoramic view of Hakodate Bay. Designated as an important cultural property with magnificent main hall and rooms reserved for special guests and Imperial family. Place was rebuilt in 1914. We did not go inside, limited time.

Beautiful old building that has been rebuilt in and around 1914 after a fire destroyed it and over 12,000 other buildings. Set up on the hill overlooking the harbor, you can just imagine what it would look like in the past with that great view....More

We paid money to go into the building. Nothing much in there. Not worth spending the money and time to go in. The structure inside were rather plain and simple. Better of taking photos from the outside.
