Great place for bird photography in winters. Come prepared for extreme cold climate. Batteries drain out pretty fast.

We had already seen the cranes at two of their winter feeding sites and at the bridge so this was more of an informative session rather than a viewing session for us. Also the morning we arrived at the centre, it was raining quite heavily...More

We were disappointed coming here immedately after being at the Tsurui Ito Red-crowned Crane Sanctuary and the Tsurumidai roadside observatory. Why? The other areas are free and have plenty of cranes, swans, and other birds. Here there is a small parking area and the Roadside...More

Those cranes in the fenced up area should be given a lot bigger area. As we were there in Autumn we did not get to see too many around the area. Just saw 1 family and a pair.

I am sure it is a good place to watch cranes in the winter but my last visit there was in summer. Only a few cranes fed in the cages. If you are travelling to the East of Hokkaido in winter, visit there.

If you are into spectacular birds against a gorgeous backdrop, then a trip here is a must. We went during the winter when the birds are supposed to be fed (an effort that has resulted in their ever-increasing numbers). Fortunately, although it was bitterly cold,...More

There isn't any opportunities for dramatic photos of Cranes fighting off Eagles for food as this center has canceled its feedings for the season. Due to bird flu they do not want to risk infection in the bird population. Regardless, for less than Yen500 (cash...More

Lake Akan resort has many good hot spring hotels/ryokan. In the immediate neighbourhood of Crane Centre has a very limited number of accommodation. That's the way cranes like it.
