After we strolled Miho no Matsubara and nearby shops, we searched for a seafood lunch. Our driver took us here which was perfect -- so many seafood vendors and restos. Inside with an ocean view, we ate a perfect seafood lunch of tempera, sashimi, and sushi -- $17. I assumed that all was fresh and not frozen. Later someone told me that all the seafood, except for tuna, is most likely frozen.

On the coastal area of Shizuoka you will find Shimizu. It is just a short train ride on the Tokaido Line from Shizuoka JR station, but can be reached from Shin-Shizuoka station as well by Shizuoka Railway.
On my way to my final destination being the S-Pulse Dream Plaza, I stopped at the Kashinoichi Fish Market. It was a nice, however limited, fish market definitely not on the scale of the Toyosu fish market in Tokyo. Nevertheless a lot of fresh fish and related products.
Like almost all fish markets in Japan there were also some nice restaurants in and around the fish market, which were already heavily visited shortly after opening up the fish market itself which was at 09.30 hrs.

The waitress (a fat lady) very impolite and rude towards tourist. The waitress told us to “wait” when we asked if we could come in with bad attitude, and turned over the registration form placed onto the table outside the restaurant. We were hesitated to leave after waiting for at least 10 minutes, a Japanese couple arrived and the waitress welcomed them with nice smile and handed in the registration form immediately, although the couple told her that we arrived, the waitress left without second word. Finally we decided to leave for her bad attitude. I would rather they posted a notice that “For Japanese Only” or “No Tourist”, their extreme attitude when treating tourist and Japanese made us have worse impression towards this place, especially after we drove nearly 2 hours to here.

The place opens between 09:30 and 10:00 in the morning and if you like fish and anything related to fish (dried, preserved, tinned), this is the place for you. I wished there would be more explanations for non Japanese speakers – but it of course a local market.
I had breakfast there: the biggest, plumpest and freshest oysters you could wish for, served with fresh lemon juice for 100 yen a piece, just wonderful. There are a couple of small places to eat within the confines of the market, I had my oysters from the guy at the stall.

Shimizu Fish Market named KASHI-NO-ICHI is located just in front of JR Shimizu station. So, it is very convenient to shop fresh fish or marine products or eat sea food, especially tuna is one of the best selling product of the market. There are alot of restaurants serving tuna dish or tuna bowl (tuna on rice).
Unlike TSUKIJI, Shimizu market is so compact but has a variety of marine products that shoppers can find what they want to buy easily. The prices are relatively cheaper than that of Tokyo or major markets.
Outside of the market, Mt. Fuji is observed in front of you. So, why you drop in at the market on your way to Miho Pine Tree Groves, don't you?

It was fun walking around and checked out the seafood products in the market. Then we enjoyed a delicious lunch upstairs at one of the many restaurants. Fresh and priced reasonable on our sashimi lunch. Huge portion for only 1800 Yen. We also bought some sakura shrimp crackers sold at the fish market to try. Very good!

We enjoyed the variety, and that you could buy everything in small portions, even a single oyster. Prices are moderate, and as we were afraid a special dish of sushi would be sold before our return, we paid it and the fishmonger kept it for us. Good and friendly service. We tried the restaurants too, and this is restaurant, wher you come to eat, and not for the fancy decoration.

This was one of our stops during a self guided walking tour we did when on a cruise to Japan. It is a very orderly fish market but unfortunately we couldn't buy any of the items for sale as we had no way to cook them. There is lots of variety.

Located on the edge of the working fishing port, this is a functional local seafood market where fishermen bring their catch, and locals purchase it either raw for preparation at home, or via one of the several dozen eateries. There are two, two story buildings one hosting the fish market, and the second the majority of the eateries. Clean and brightly lit stalls offer a wide range of fresh seafood, sushi and sashimi. Remember this is not a tourist attraction and very little English is spoken.

Thought I’d visit Shimizu from Shizuoka. I walked through the fish market and food/ restaurant unit next door. Although it’s good to see all of the fresh local produce most of it was already wrapped and packaged so not what I was really expecting. I was quite disappointed in the actual market. Although the food places looked quite nice and were quite busy.

Yes. There are restaurants with cooked food. The great place with the shinkansen delivering sushi even had fish and chips on the menu.
