About
For foreign customers : You can enjoy tax-free shopping in our shop from June 1, 2018! Imayo Tsukasa started as an inn and sake shop. From the late Edo period to the early Meiji era, Niigata was said to have a higher population than Edo. Since the middle of the Meiji era Imayo Tsukasa has been a fully dedicated sake brewery. The Niigata soil was fertile, the Agano water was clean, and we built a facility in Nuttari, a hub for Japanese fermented goods like miso, sake and soy sauce. Wanting to review our brand and reflect on our brewing method, In 2006 Imayo Tsukasa vowed to be an “only-junmai” company. It’s not easy. Because you can’t add anything to adjust taste or alcohol content, you have to take extra special care of the rice in every step of the process. We value the importance of producing nothing but high-level sake, working hard to make only premium sake. These include Junmai Daiginjo, Junmai Ginjo and Junmaishu.

The Imayotsukasa Sake Brewery has English and Japanese tours of its production process but I did not go as I’ve been on such tours elsewhere before. However, I visited the brewery just for its sake lees ice cream, which was pretty tasty!

Well worth doing. The tour was great, very interesting and not too long. You might want to check when the English speaking tours are as it is not available with all tours.
The Sake was lovely.

Very informative tour about Sake making! I didn’t realize how much the rice is polished to make different kinds of Sake! They have a tasting room at the end of the tour! You can taste 15 different types of Sake for 1000 yen! Very nice experience!

I really enjoyed the brewery tour. The tour wasn't too long, but felt just right. There were only five of us in the English guided tour. The tour guide spoke good English and was able to understand questions. Because of the small sized group, we were able to ask questions. I thought it was really interesting.
We walked from the JR Niigata station. The walk was easy (all flat, no hills). It took us about 30 minutes. Basically you exit out of Niigata station turn right and walk down that street. We used google maps to help guide us. The walk back was just as easy.
Before going I checked their website to make sure that there was an English guided tour available. On their website I did make a reservation for a specific date/time for the English guided tour.
If you like Sake and wanted to learn more about it, this tour is something you may be interested in.

In Niigata, touring a sake brewery is a must do itinerary and we choose this brewery for this purpose. There was a guided tour and even though the guide couldn’t speak much English, we were given English brochures which were really helpful. It allowed us to look into the history of the brewery in Akita. There was a shop selling their own brew as well and tasting of sake is free only for one bottle that’s alcoholic. You can pay a thousand yen to try out the other different types produced at the brewery. Overall it’s quite an interesting visit.

This is a very fun thing to do while in Niigata! The 30+ minute tour is free, and if you connect with the brewery on Line, you get a free limited tasting after the tour. The advanced tasting costs ¥1,000, which also felt like a good deal! The whole experience took about an hour and was a lot of fun!

I came here as a last minute stop in Niigata before heading home. I was able to get a tour in English and it was very informative about the sake brewing process and the culture behind it! The tour guide was very friendly and was helpful when I had a question. I unfortunately was driving so I couldn’t sample the sake, but for 1000 yen you can try a variety of the sake they have. I really liked their amazake (non-alcoholic sweet sake). They are also one of the only few dozen breweries in Japan to use wooden barrels when making sake. The gift shop had a lot of sake choices and flavors! I’m totally glad I came here.

I recommend this saké brewery! The tour was very interesting. I arrived on a day where there wasn’t a tour in English but I was able to still attend with a free English audio guide and leaflets. It was very interesting to see how saké is made.
Also the tasting at the end (non mandatory) is worth it: for only 1000¥, you can try every sake they have! I had a very good time, the staff was also very nice :)

We stayed at Keihin hotel, and walked to sake brewery!
For 1000 yen, we got to taste all of their sake. (About 12 different ones)They even gave us a ceramic sake cup to keep!
This sake brewery has the “Koi Label” sake, for around $50.00.
Their Daiginjo was excellent! We even bought sake with gold flakes inside.
After trying all of the different sake, we met Sakeman! They had a meeting in a separate room!
It was a great experience!

We understand why this sake brewery is so popular ... centrally located in Niigata, short cab ride, interesting tour, nice staff, educational, and many varieties of sake to taste. Although the tour and tastings of a couple samples are free, we highly recommend spending 1,000 yen to taste all their selections (if you take a cab or walked). Only then can you appreciate the subtle nuances of different types of sake. We left buying several bottles. English-speaking tours are limited, so check in advance if needed.
