Amazing warmth and hospitality with an incredible cooking experience
Let me start by saying I have travelled quite a bit and taken cooking classes before. This experience was beyond expectations being held in a Machiya. Moe Aoki and her partner (Cannot believe I forgot her name!) orchestrate one of the warmest most hospitable experiences I have ever had. Literally like visiting a friend at their home and having an amazing cooking experience with a wonderful explanation of the central role that Japanese Koji plays in their cooking. You feel not only inspired, but leave with knowledge about cuisine, culture and feel like you have made new friends in Japan. The dishes we made were beautiful and delicious - expertly guided and encouraged with inside tips and tricks. When in Kanazawa, this is simply a must visit....you will not be disappointed! Simply a wonderful experience.

Authentic “taste” of Kanazawa, Japan through food, hospitality and cultural descriptions. Don’t Miss It!
Our group of 6 friends arrived in Kanazawa having been pre-scheduled by our tour company, Inside Japan, for this cooking class. Being experience travelers, a cooking class in a foreign country was familiar, but we were not prepared for the unique and special experience coming our way. The other reviews do a nice job of describing the delicious authentic recipes we were taught to prepare and the amazing hospitality of Chikako and Moe, but the hospitality part of the experience cannot be overstated. This is one of those experiences that underscores the value of travel - an opportunity to interact with people from another culture which would not be possible sitting at home watching a travelogue. With just two days in Kanazawa we will not experience everything, but this is likely to be #1 of all things to do in Kanazawa.

A magical experience in Kanazawa, Japan
It was a delightful experience , friendly and welcoming hosts, Moe and Chikako. A perfectly equipped kitchen. Started with a Japanese omelet and dishes followed like is was a Japanese feast, which we ate at the end of the evening. And everything looked so easy. We recommend everyone to experience this magical cooking class.

The highlight of our trip to Japan!
Our evening here was the highlight of our three week trip to Japan with our 16 year old grandson, who enjoys cooking. Our hosts were warm and welcoming, and their English is fluent. We learned a great deal about Japanese culture and cuisine, and we enjoyed our conversations with the hosts as much as we enjoyed the cooking instruction. The dishes we cooked were delicious, and we can easily make them at home with the instructions we were given to take home with us. We strongly recommend the Cooking Studio Kanazawa to anyone who enjoys cooking, whether you especially enjoy Japanese food or not. The dishes were delicious.

Unforgettable experience that was informative, cultural and fun
We spent a wonderful few hours both learning about food in Japan and then learning how to cook it in a traditional restored Machiya house. Our hosts could not have been more warm and welcoming and the session was one of the highlights of what was is first trip to Japan. The session was beautifully paced and resulted in not only cooking our lunch on the day but providing a Bento box of the surplus to take away with us. Placing food in the context of the history of Japan made it so much more than just a cooking course. Kanazawa is a wonderful town to visit with much to see and the Cooking Studio Kanazawa Salon is a must visit while you are there! Many thanks to Moe and Chicako for being such gracious, charming and informative teachers!

I’ve taken cooking classes all around the world and this one far out met my expectations. Moe and Chikako, the teachers, are friendly, welcoming, gracious, and funny. At the end of the night I truly felt like I had made two new friends. I was impressed by how they are able to weave the history of Japan and Ishikawa-Ken into the cooking lesson. I learned so much about how samurai culture and different political periods in Japan influenced the cuisine. The dishes we prepared were delicious and the instructions were well paced and easy to follow. We enjoyed a beautiful meal of hand roll sushi, duck and vegetables, salad, and miso soup. I recommend this class to cooks of all levels as you will learn new skills and culinary techniques no matter where you are coming from. It was a true pleasure to spend the evening with these gracious hosts in their immaculately restored 150 year old traditional house.

We really enjoyed our cooking experience. Chikako and Moe were really friendly hosts and accommodating of dietary needs.

We learned a lot both about Japanese cuisine and also the history of Kanazawa. The experience was very personalised and made us feel very welcome. I would happily do it again and would recommend it to anyone visiting Kanazawa! A big highlight of our stay here!

A great cooking class! We got to visit and laugh with our instructors as the walked us through preparation of several dishes. The class was very hands on and even my husband who is not a cook thoroughly enjoyed himself.
