Took a quick walk down to the beach and can't say we were impressed. No grass under the trees before the beach and a fair bit of garbage strewn about. Sandy beach but the water isn't inviting as it's the brown water from the river

One doesn't go to Carmelo exactly to enjoy the city nor the beaches. The wineries are what attract tourists and surely are worthy the visit. But just driving by was good for a little change.

The place is a bit run down, but is very quiet and perfect if you want to enjoy some peace. We were staying at Narbona wine lodge, so the Balbeario was just a side trip on our way. We wouldn't travel especially to go there.
