This Caravanserai was truly fascinating. To think that it is in such great condition so many years after Silk Road journeys. I found the building to be fascinating, also that a municipality would build and maintain such a place. The Caravanserai underscored how important overland trade was for communities far away from coastal waters. To have a small mosque in the middle is frosting on the cake.

This place reminds of some caravanserai scenes from Dirilis Ertugrul. Traders stopped here before continuing their journey. The entrance is impressive with beautiful carvings. You can't spend too long here maybe 30 minutes, max.
This Caravanserai will be better if it has cafe inside for visitors to enjoy apple tea and Turkish coffee just like some of the scenes from Dirilis Ertugrul.

When we were there at the 13th century Sultan Hani Caravanserai it was under extensive restoration works and it is not worth paying the entrance fee in order to go inside. Maybe after the restoration works is completed it will be worth while going inside as we managed a glimpse inside of one of building.

We visited this on our travels through Turkey; it is amazing to think that this has stood here since 1229. The intricate carving, on the entrance to the building and on entrances to the winter and summer shelters, are impressive when you consider that this was essentially just a rest stop on the Silk Road.

One of the best preserved, and I think the largest of the caravanserais that were dotted across Anatolia. It's worth a visit if you're travelling between Konya and Akseray (and only 6TL, or free if the ticket man's gone to lunch). Beautiful entry into open courtyard, the remains of a small central mosque and then the covered storage area, now home to numerous pigeons. Carved stone abounds, wonderful feeling of history and how trade worked during the Ottoman Empire along the Silk Road. Café opposite has very friendly staff, fresh juice, cheese pastries and lentil soup (it also has a small supermarket so you can pick up some chocolate or wine), and the cleanest toilets!

An impressive caravan site where the old travelers used to get a rest. Here they could get doctors help, vets for their animals and a good nights sleep in safety.

Loved going to this old caravan stop and seeing how the merchants would cool down while their camels took a break. Also, don't miss the whirling dervish show. It's a mystical must.

Having a guide to describe what this place is, is essential. He described how travelers along the silk road would stop here for a night or 2 and would register their cargo with the proprietor and if any of it was missing when they went to leave the proprietor would have to pay them for the missing portion. They were also able to house their animals here when traveling.

Unfortunately, this structure is undergoing extensive renovations right now and we were not allowed inside so I can't comment on the interior of the building. The outside looked to me like many of the other ancient silk road structures that you can visit in Turkey. I'm sure it's worth a longer visit when they reopen it to the public. It will be on my list of things to see if I return to Turkey.
