World's first democratic Parliamet, Lycian League Parliament. Patara and Demre are also the towns where Saint Nicholas, yes Santa Claus, was born and lived.

The Lycian City of Patara was once a flourishing Maritime City built at the edge of the Mediterranean on a coastal plain. Much remains to be seen and explored.

If you love history, this is the place, where we were the day was too hot, so it was difficult as we are far from the sea, but its beautiful.

Patara was an enormously important city in its day. History, location, surviving monuments are all very special. However, for non-specialist and non-history buff. that site could be easily skipped. There are many much better preserved/restored ruins in Turkey.

Wonderfully reconstructed historic site. I love that one building is fully reconstructed to help get a real idea of the scale of ancient architecture. The beach nearby is also lovely with its sandy shores.
