It is simply a monument of great founder of Chiang Rai. Located in the middle of chiang rai town, you can easily see this monument everytime you are in town.

Built commemorating the founder of Chiang Rai, many tourists visit daily, whether to say a prayer or simply take a photo, best to visit early morning or late evening as it is cooler then, great photo opportunities

Rather large statue commemorating the founder of Chiang Rai. Loved the different animals at the base. Wish I'd read these reviews first as I'd have loved the free tour!

This memorial statue is of King Mengrai who founded Chiang Rai and subsequently Chiang Mai. I would say yes, at least to history buffs, take a moment to check it out.
