This was the trip of a lifetime. Working with Shadows made it so easy to plan and experience the vacation. Jake in CA was extremely helpful and responded to every question quickly. Once we arrived our driver Charles was extraordinary. His knowledge about all the animals was amazing. He made sure we saw everything and was willing to go the extra mile to make sure our trip was perfect.Highly recommend!

From the preliminaries with Jake in California to being helped to the correct gate by our guide Gerald, our 10 days on Safari with Shadows of Africa was a top class experience. Gerald was expert at getting us sightings of every sort of creature we hoped for....sometimes Extremely close. A Cheetah mom and her cub with a kill so fresh she was still panting from the chase was a highlight. Elephants so close one could have touched them from the car window (NOT recommended, as they are said to take umbrage at that sort of thing) The folks at the Woodlands camp were very kind to us....as was everyone we met on the trip...even the customs folks! In any case...if you have any thoughts to make this trip part of your life memories, do not hesitate, Gerald and Shadows of Africa deliver the goods. It was MUCH more than just a vacation...it will live in my heart forever. -Veteran '66-68

We had a trip of a lifetime with the help of Shadows of Africa and our guide, Loma. We visited Tanzania and the country is stunning and the people were all so welcoming and gracious. It was a pleasure to meet everyone we did and spend time with them. We wanted to experience safari and also the culture of Tanzania and shadows of Africa helped curate us the best possible trip to balance both.

We spent a day with the Maasai tribe at the Africa Amini lodge, had a day hike at Kilimanjaro, 7 days of Safari and 3 nights at the Beach in Zanzibar. We stayed at the following locations: African Amini Lodge, Oleari Lodge in Arusha, Honeyguide Camp in Tarangire, Oldeani Lodge In Ngorongoro, The Lake Masek Tented lodge in Ndutu, Singing Grass Camp in Centeal Serengeti and finally My Blue Hotel in Zanzibar. We did a fair amount of travel between locations but it was the best way to experience all the different areas of Tanzania. Every place we stayed was wonderful, comfortable, with great food. We would stay at any of these lodges / camps again. Our favorite spots were in the camps themselves (honeyguide, lake masek, and singing grass). We loved being right in the park, the tents were very luxurious and the staff at each made our stays great. There is nothing like walking back to your tent and seeing a hippo, buffalo, or a herd of elephants coming by the camp.

The safari itself was incredible and hard to put to words how great of an experience it truly was. This was in large part to our guide Loma. Loma was fantastic. His knowledge for every animal, plant, and bird was astonishing. In our biased opinion, he is the best guide around. He is very kind, always smiling and we enjoyed our many days in the car with him. Every animal that we wanted to see, Loma was successful is spotting. We saw all of the big 5, plus countless other animals. He instinctively knew where to head and at the right times for the best game views. Loma also shared all of his pictures with us, which was great. He is a fantastic photographer and some of his pictures are my favorite from the trip. In addition to the safari information, Loma taught us about local culture and would answer all of our questions. He truly was invested in teaching us about Tanzania and all it has to offer.

We ended the trip with 3 nights in Zanzibar. The beach is the perfect way to balance out the adventure of the safari days. We were able to get sun, sand and relax each day. Our resort offered a wide array of foods at each meal and our room was very nice. We enjoyed the beach and next time we will definitely carve out time to explore stone town as well.

All in all, a wonderful trip and a lifetime of memories. Shadows of Africa and Loma were a big part in making this happen for us.

The biggest decision by far when booking a safari is deciding which tour company to choose from the HUNDREDS available. After weeks of careful checking and cross-checking and checking again, we decided on Shadows of Africa... and it was absolutely 100 per cent the right decision.

The organization from the start to finish was seamless thanks to the meticulous planning by our coordinator Dany. Absolutely everything fell into place. She took into account we wanted nature and culture and divided the days accordingly. It was a great way to combine the two aspects and all we had to do was sit back and relax!! We didn't have to think about a thing. Wow. Our accommodation was a mixture of luxury lodges and up-market tented lodges. Another great combination.

We saw so many beautiful, majestic animals in their natural habitat. It was a joy. Every day was a new adventure with more than satisfactory results!! Spotting the 'big 5'.... no problem. But seeing them many times was a pure delight.

All this was possible thanks to the skill of our driver, Zamoo. He has a natural instinct when it comes to searching out the wildlife. In fact, we called him Harry Potter because of his magical ability to find the animals. His English is excellent, he has a lovely way of explaining everything so we could always see the bigger picture but more than this, he's a really nice guy. Polite, respectful and kind. We would absolutely recommend him. 10/10.

We also had a great morning with Lucy who did our the first town cultural tour. Her explanations were first class and we laughed a lot... especially doing the 'guess the spice' quiz in the market. And lunch in the banana plantation? The food was soooooo good. One of our best meals in fact. What flavours!!

The second cultural day was excellent as well with Hassan when we spent time with two different tribes in the bush to see how they lived and indeed, survived.

So overall we had the best time ever. Hats off to Shadows of Africa... you have been amazing.

Shadows is absolutely the best! Our trip was perfect. Every little detail was perfect. We even added a side trip which a driver quickly arranged for us. Speaking of our driver, Charles was amazing. Our truck was often the first to spot animals and he would lead all the other truck(Different Companies) to the animals. Jake at the Shadows office made sure this was the trip of a lifetime! Thank you!

Hard to put into words what we have experienced in our 2 weeks of safari with Shadows of Africa but I’ll try!

I started planning our first safari back in October 2024 and chose to work with Megan from Shadows of Africa because I just loved how she presented her idea of the first safari experience to me. We probably changed our itinerary 6-7 times, all because I was asking for more every time, and she came through!
The experience was planned as a Christmas gift my wife who really wanted to see giraffes at the Giraffe Manor in Kenya, as well as other animals in the national parks. In total we spent 3 days in Kenya, visiting GM and Sasaab, and then another 10 days in Tanzania, exploring Ngorongoro crater, manyara lake, Tarangire and Ndutu (southern serengeti). We have seen pretty much every animal of my check list, as well as all of the Big Five.

Our guide Gerald made sure we always were one of the very first at new sightings, we always got the best spots for photography and just general sightseeing, and he answered all my dumb questions regarding the wildlife.

Never have I thought that a gift to my wife and 4 year old son would turn out to ignite a fire in me like never before. I can admit now that all I think about since coming back home is going back to Africa to see and explore the wildlife.

Of all places that I have visited in my life (and there have been plenty, from Columbia to Japan) I can safely say that nothing comes even remotely close to what we just experienced.

I highly recommend you visit Ndutu for the predators, Samburu for the elephants and giraffes, and ngorongoro for the most amazing views as well as lots of migrating animals!

I will now leave you with some photos that I took, and a final message: if you have not visited Tanzania yet, do it right now and get Shadows of Africa to help you organize everything.

We just finished a two week with Shadows of Africa and Loma as our Safari Guide. Our trip included Kilimanjaro, 7 days of safari, and finishing up with Zanzibar. This is without question the best trip I've ever taken in my entire life. We highly recommend using Shadows of Africa to give you the best experience possible. Loma was knowledgeable on everything and has an unbelievable ability to spot animals on the safari's. This was the third safari our group has not only used Shadows of Africa, but requested Loma as the guide.

We did a ten day safari in Kenya and Tanzania with Shadows of Africa in January. The trip absolutely blew all of our minds. I couldn't comprehend how much we were able to see in just one day. This trip blew my expectations out of the water! I imagined that we would see a few animals each day from far off and get to view them through binoculars, but no, there were literally millions of animals and they were just a matter of feet away from the truck. The vehicle was great and the accommodations and food were wonderful! Our guides, Amos (Kenya) and Alex (Tanzania), were top tier and knew a crazy amount of information about the wildlife, plants, culture, and just about anything I asked a question about; I learned so much! Shadows of Africa took care of every detail of the trip, and did a great job. Also, the communication leading up to the trip was fantastic - Thanks Karen Maki.
I would recommend Shadows of Africa to anyone wanting a trip of a lifetime!

We did a 6-day tour of Amboseli, Naivasha, Nakuru, and Maasai Mara in Kenya in late January/early February 2024 with my mom, and I cannot recommend it more. After the initial hiccups of getting our driver/guide replaced with a different one at the last minute and him not getting sufficient information on our itinerary for the first day from the agency, everything was smooth sailing from then on and we couldn't have been happier with our guide, Ken Nganga! Not only was he a very knowledgeable guide who never failed to show us the best of the parks and reserves we visited and somehow always managed to be at the right place at the right time when rarities such as two leopards or four cheetahs showed up, he was also a great friend and travelling companion for the duration of the entire trip, while also being the calmest and by far the best driver we have encountered on our trips abroad. It was also always great to see the respect he endures within the guiding community whenever we arrived at a new lodge or park and everyone knew him; just goes to show how experienced he is and explains why we saw such an overwhelming amount of amazing sightings as we did in such a short time. He also never hesitated to accommodate any of our needs and even tailored some of the trip to my interests in soils and rocks by stopping at certain unique spots along the way. The jeep we used for the entire trip was also great and very comfortable during the long rides, while also perfect for viewing wildlife. All of the lodges and camps chosen by the agency exceeded our expectations with amazing views, food, and rooms/tents. We will definitely return to East Africa to book more trips with Shadows of Africa and definitely stay longer next time! Asante sana!

This is the second time we have travelled with shadows, the first time was in 2018 to the Serengeti and Zanzibar and now in 2023 to the East African countries -Rwanda, Uganda, and Kenya on Golden monkey & Gorilla trekking and Safaris in Masai Mara and Lake Naivasha.
We took these trips with Ziwa in Rwanda and Uganda, and George in Kenya.

Shadows have amazing employees when it comes to planning and booking the trip and even better guides who are so full ofn knowledge, local customs, tidbits and know how..

We had tons of fun on our trips in Africa and would soon be planning the next one with them.

They come highly recommended for anyone who wants to go to the African continent!!

Many thanks to the team (Alona) for helping us plan our trips and to Ziwa as well as George for their company and knowledge during the trip.
