    Old world charm
A beautiful place to dive in history ! I visited in January, still it was very hot during the afternoon, so hired a Tuk Tuk, however can be covered on foot. The architecture and ambience of the place makes it charming. Most of the Dutch and British structures are renovated and still in use as government offices, shops, institutes, cafes, hotels etc. There are two museums - National museum which was very small, and Archaeological Museum which was big. Most of the sections of museums were very hot without any fan or AC, despite pricy tickets( sp for foreigners). Sun set from the fort wall was mesmerising, a must do activity. Ensure you keep at least 6-7 hours for this place, you won’t regret !

    Beautiful Place with Colonial Architecture
It is a beautiful place. Outside you have a nice view on the fortifications. When you walk through the wall system near the sea, you have a nice view over the sea. Inside the old town, you can enjoy jutst the city of colonial architecture. You find cafes, restaurants and a lot of souvenir shops there, where they offer all kind of souvenirs from Sri Lanka.

Sinhalese charm of the past centuries
Half Portuguese, half Dutch colonial architectures as a framework through and around old Ceylon Galle just by the sea. Lots of lovely monuments and tiny restaurants along the quiet pedestrian avenues . And an impressive military fort above the beach

    Galle Fort
Galle Forte is an interesting and beautiful place to visit. The walk along the ramparts which is just under 2km has beautiful views and really is a must do. Galle has a good selection of shops and good cafes. The streets are quite shady allowing a little respite from the sun.

If you like run down, poorly looked after, and litter strewn historical sites then Galle is for you!

Particularly enjoy the over priced restaurants serving mediocre food, the locals staring at any white girl in an uncomfortable way, and any gent with dollar signs in their eyes.

In short spend 10 minutes at sun down take your photo against the sun setting and leave immediately to the 101 better places along the coast.

It was lovely walking around the old building in the Galle fortress. There is some beautiful architecture to be seen. One of the buildings is also an arcade of shops and cofes.

The town is so pretty. Loved the little streets and picturesque houses. Some nice shops too, some with nice generic gifts and others with more original gifts. Really enjoyed the ‘stick no bills’ art shop and you can buy small postcards to take home at a good price. The prints are cool old fashioned style with maps and adverts. Also some nice cafe and ice cream places here too.
The fort is ok to wander around but the town is lovely.

Galle definitely lived up to the hype. Unfortunately, when I was there, there were not many tourists. On the plus for me, it made the city more intimate. Everything is walking distance, and the history is rich.

Stayed 2 nights near galle fort. Great sunset views from Triton bastion. Many good food options in the fort too. And many shops to shop around in the fort. We went to nearby unawatuna (20min drive), stayed there for around 5 hours in the evening. Unawatuna beach is more beautiful, which is something you cant find in galle fort. Dont forget to go on a boat ride at unawatuna! Boat ride is one hour long, best to go during sunset. Just ask around the beach folks, they will show you where the meeting point for boat rides. Overall, i think 2 nights at galle is adequate. One sunset at triton bastion and the other at unawatuna
