- MandyChandigarh, India16 contributionsFun Times at Chandigarh's Rock GardenI've had the pleasure of visiting the Rock Garden in Chandigarh numerous times with both family and friends, and each visit has been nothing short of amazing. It's not only a must-see for first-time visitors to the city but also a delightful spot for locals looking for a fun day out. What's cool about it is that everything there is made from old stuff like broken tiles, bottles, bangles, pots, and other junk. But the way they've used it all to make sculptures and pathways is mind-blowing! There are swings , camel rides, different types of fishes, canteen for snacks and funhouse mirrors that distort our reflections in amusing ways. They never fail to elicit laughter and create lasting memoriesVisited December 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 6 May 2024
- Sangeeta ShahMumbai, India1,861 contributionsReview of the Rock Garden, ChandigarhThe Rock Garden, situated near Sukhna lake is a sculpture garden in Chandigarh, India. It is also known as Nek Chand Saini's Rock Garden of Nathupur after its founder Nek Chand Saini, a government official who started building the garden secretly in his spare time in 1957. It has spread over an area of 40 acres; consists of man-made interlinked waterfalls and many other sculptures with amazing detailing, moulding of the trees and roots etc. which is completely built from industrial, home waste, scraps and discarded items like bottles, glasses, bangles, tiles, ceramic pots, sinks, electrical waste, broken pipes, etc. and covered by narrow pathways into a maze like structure that opens up into huge open spaces. There is also a Dolls Museum inside Rock Garden, which comprises 200 rag dolls made from waste clothes by Nek Chand in the 1970s. There’s also a restaurant for refreshments, sovereign shop for tourists convenience and washrooms inside the garden. Overall a very unique place to visit and quite fun for all age groups, just at the entry fee of INR 30 for adults, and INR 10 for children. The garden is open from 9 AM to 7 pm every day, so do visit when the weather is quite pleasant; so you can easily spend 2-3 hours inside, and yes photography is allowed. Pretty unique and haven't seen something like this elsewhere. It's pretty huge so there's quite a bit of walking to do it you go in. Lots of waterfalls and status could be seen here. Nestled in the middle of a busy city the rock garden was a peaceful place to visit. It’s has ample parking space and entry fee of INR 30 for adults and 10/- for kids.Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 23 May 2024
- Suman SharmaMadhya Pradesh, India1 contributionChandigarh Rock Garden ReviwThe Rock Garden in Chandigarh is an intriguing attraction with a unique charm. Created by Nek Chand, this garden is renowned for its unconventional use of recycled materials like broken ceramics, glass, and industrial waste, which have been transformed into elaborate sculptures and artistic installations. The garden's layout is quite expansive and features a maze-like structure with various pathways, waterfalls, and artistic displays. It’s impressive to see how creatively the materials have been repurposed to form different figures and scenes. However, while the Rock Garden is certainly a visual treat and offers a different kind of experience compared to traditional gardens, some visitors might find it a bit overwhelming or difficult to navigate due to its winding paths and numerous steps. The garden’s maintenance can be hit-or-miss, with some areas needing better upkeep. Overall, the Rock Garden is a worthwhile visit for those interested in art and innovative use of materials. It’s a one-of-a-kind attraction in Chandigarh and provides a glimpse into the creativity and vision of its creator. Just be prepared for a bit of a walk and some uneven terrain.Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 25 July 2024

A most intriguing venue and quite unique. Our guide told us it was the work of one man starting in the ‘50’s making all the figures and decor from waste, broken plates, tiles, pottery even light switches! It is well done and surprisingly big. Watch out for wet stones slippery when wet. An Indian visitor fell in by the attractive waterfall!

This garden is one of a kind as most of the stuff is made of rocks here. You will find a lot of statues carved out of rocks, mini waterfalls, doll museum, aquarium, swings and what not in this park. I had never seen so many swings together at any other place. Doll Museum was also one of its kind. You will need a minimum of 2 hours to cover the place. It’s a must visit if you are in Chandigarh. The entry fee is minimal but you can find a long crowd for the ticket.

The garden is organized as a maze and is very unique. It has enormous numbers of figures made of stones. Although many visitors come to this garden, the maze arrangement avoids crowded situations. This garden is a must visi when you visit Chandigarh

We visited the Rock Garden with high expectations. All expectations did not last long. The whole place has been redone from what it used to be. It now has very narrow passages with nothing to see on either sides. The passages are so narrow that one will not get time to see elsewhere. Plenty of arched gates have been put in place which results is accumulation of huge crowds and one really has to bend reasonably to pass through them. Only one person can pass through these gates at a time. The things are so poorly managed that in case of any mishap or emergency, there is no way the person or persons could be evacuated through any emergency routes. As a result of pile up of crowds at every gate, even young people find it hard to manage their way to the other side - leave alone elderly, women and children.

There is a 30 INR entry ticket to visit this place. The best time of the day is visit this place is in the morning half of the day before the crowd begins. In today's day and age one would expect to wear a mask but there was just so much crowd and no one was wearing any mask or adhering to any social distance. At the entry there was a strict monitoring of wearing masks but then once you enter; I found that masks were all forgotten. The displays were excellent and very creative. A reminder that with the power of imagination one can achieve wonders. There are several places in this garden where there is a narrow passage and this is where there was a huge bottle neck and again if no one was wearing mask then the mind and the experience shifts towards one safety. There are places where the gates are very low so one has to bend and go through the gates. The garden from the Doll Museum onwards to the exit was the best part and very well maintained too. This entire walk will take at least 1-2 hours by foot. A great walk during winters however please take caution with regards to huge crowds during the winter tourist season.

A must visit to this place when you are in Chandigarh. This place is amazing with lots of rock dolls, water falls all build with waste or built with damaged materials. Its a feast of one full day or minimum 4 to 5 hours to enjoy and relish.

The place Chandigarh is known for is the Rock Garden. The trick to visit the garden is in the opening hours in the morning at 9 am.Rs.30/- for entry ticket. The garden is mainly for clicking photos, so if you go early, there are less number of visitors and you can take your photos anywhere inside the garden without any disturbance. This a huge garden and as mentioned you may spend times clicking photos so it is added to your visit time. For this you can keep 2 hours to fully enjoy each and every corner of the garden and clicking as many photographs as you like. The garden has 2 small waterfalls, a doll museum, laughing mirror, aquarium, rest room, eatery and souvenir shop.

Must visit in Chandigarh to see how a man's passion can result in beauty forever. Can't imagine how someone can dedicate a lifetime to creating something like this! Should go there in the morning, preferably and plan to spend 2-3 hours. Can do a hurried visit in one hour also. There is also a puppet museum attached to it, which is an interesting experience too. Sukhna Lake is nearby and you can go there by taking a rikshaw but that place tends to get a bit crowded.

This place is away from the main city but no doubt reaching out there is simple due to availability of public conveyance from Bus stand of Sector 17, ticket is there for entry 30rs for adult and I missed the amount for children from 3-10 years but it is also nominal, it takes 2.5 to 3 hours to complete this garden. From the beginning we can see that all the material used was household waste be it bangles, electronic waste, crockery waste, glass waste and these materials are used to built different scriptures and images these things are too impressive this is just the one part after that there is fountains, waterflows and waterfalls these are also very eye catching, there are so many things to see other than the reused waste material like aquarium, swings, nice place to sit and eat and best places for photography. overall I liked it so much and I am coming again to this place whenever i will be in Chandigarh

It’s a nice experience to see visually so many sculptures and artistic figures with nice walking trails.
Such places are hard to find in India where you can spend time and be for long duration and kids can enjoy and see things.
There is a fish aquarium, laughing mirror sone for fun activities for kids.

How we reach here from chandigarh airport? Any local bus no.? Pls reply soon
Written 3 October 2019
There is no direct bus from Airport to Rock Garden. Better to take airport taxi or app based taxi like ola or uber. If you still want to travel by bus then take bus no. 38 from airport and get off at ISBT Sec 17. Then take bus no. 239c and drop off at MLA FLAT sec 4. Rock garden is around 1 km from there.
