Medievil Magic Location

The most quaint town you can actually stay in. Most attractions of this type are only for paying customers to visit & a few privileged locals to live in. So imagine our surprise when our accommodation "Euroway House" was right in the middle of Kastav - the most quaint ancient village you will ever stay in. With a massive natural park attached to it, where it looks like nothing has changed for the last 500 years you can still see the stone foundations of ancient buildings & amphitheaters that existed in a buy gone era. You could spend days just exploring this park. Not to mention the most amazing views from the old castle towers of Kastav - of which, I think 5 are still standing.

Kastav was a nice stopover on our way to the east of the country. It is a pretty town and worth spending an hour there.

Gorgeous old town - loved the views!
Aug 2019
Kastav is beautiful and the best part is that it is not very busy.

We visited the old town for the first time for supper and were so taken back that we returned another day and arrived earlier so that we could see more.

The old town is hilly and has lots of cobble stones so wear sensible shoes. There are plenty lanes to walk down and admire the old buildings which date back to medieval times.

The most majestic part is the view of the Opatjia Riviera which is equally lovely day or night. The views were also impressive from the old fortification.

There are a few nice restaurants - it's a lovely half day out.

Romantic atmosphere of a small village
Aug 2019 • Family
We had a nice walk up the streets with a beautiful view of Opatija riviera at the end. Old streets are narrow, cats are sitting on the stairways, beautiful flowers and gardens everywhere. Very nice place in Rijeka neighborhood.

Great Trails
Oct 2018 • Couples
Kastav is a cute little hilltop town, there are places to eat and drink, but the best part is the trails just behind the town through the forest where you can even rent horses for some more adventurous horseback riding. We live nearby and signed up for the school and regularly attend hour long lessons and horseback riding sessions. Other than that, the town is nice, and there are also special events, wine festivals and the like.

Perfect outing
Sep 2018 • Couples
Situated perfectly at the deepest end of Kvarner bay on top of the hill some 400m above sea level one can see the whole bay with islands of Cres and Krk, Opatija, Rijeka, Učka mountain, Velebit and the slopes of Alps. Kastav has rich history dated back into medieval with lots of legends that can still be tasted when visiting its sites. There are several excellent restaurants of local cuisine or slow food and a few cafes to rest after a stroll or a brisk walk in the wood of Kastav. So close to the worries of nowadays and so apart from it all with its charms of gone by times.

Cute little town up in the hills

We had a car and wanted to see a bit more of the countryside. It is a lovely quiet medieval town and we enjoyed walking around the narrow streets and soaking up the atmosphere.

Lovely little village near Rijeka
Jun 2018 • Couples
We were staying in Rijeka and our only reason for visiting Kastav was to go to the a restaurant we had read about online. When we got there in the early evening we were charmed by the little village. Lovely place to walk around as the shadows got longer and the temperature started to cool off. Walked up to an old fortification that overlooks the village and out to the ocean. The path and the ruin itself were dotted with wildflowers. Besides the slow food restaurant we went to, there were other cafes and restaurants. I'm not sure I would visit here just to visit unless you just want to soak up a bit of old world charm.
