1.5 hours of maritime terror. These death riders drive it like they blooming stole it. My poor son Daryl had to keep his eyes shut the whole time. Do not board this boat unless you have written your will and prepared your estate. There’s a good chance you’ll arrive at Tayrona National Park stone cold dead. I’m sure they can sort you horse drawn hearse to get you out of the park (this will cost extra so be sure to have it in cash strapped round your neck as these cowboys definitely don’t take card).

Tayrona is the Latin America Hawaii. Beautiful beaches, rivers, waterfalls, and the forest is amazing.
We stay at Casa grande surf hostal near to the Tayrona Park entrance, very good location to go around everywhere.
The place is beautiful and the staff very nice. The food and drinks are delicious and have very affordable prices.
They offer relax and therapeutic massages, the best I have in my whole life.

Then we stay at Rodadero Santa Marta. Very nice beaches, great restaurants around the beach and in downtown. Wonderful city lo visit, and affordable.
We enjoy so much our visit to the Colombian Caribe.

This is a nice place where you can go snorkeling, swimming, tanning and other water activities. First, you need to take a bus to go to the entrance of the park. As with all National Natural Parks in Colombia, you have to pay and listen to a talk which gives you recommendations on how to take care of this beautiful place and help conserve it. After that, you take a boat and after a short trip you get to the beach. It is indeed cristal clear. Beautiful!

Loved the warm water and the little fish in the water at this beach in Tayrona National Park. The boat ride over is choppy and be prepared to get soaked by the time you get to the beach. Unfortunately we were expecting the beach to be much bigger and more spacious than it was, and so we walked way down to the far end and found some space which was quieter and away from the vendors and restaurants. We didn't appreciate getting hassled by the restauranteurs as soon as we got off the boat. The pressure is huge to buy a lunch here! We brought our own and were happy with that, thank you very much. I would go again knowing what I know now. There is apparently another trail that leads to an even prettier and very quiet beach about 45 minutes away by foot. Will try that out next time too. Overall a pleasant day.

If you want to visit Playa Cristal DO NOT take the rickety launch from Taganga. It is dangerous. This type of transportation would NEVER be considered safe in Europe or the U.S. It is DANGEROUS & a horrifying experience. According to locals, there have been drowning accidents.

The crossing takes 45 minutes & it is horrifying. Each uncovered launch is packed with 15 persons each. We were given raggedy life vest (likely never tested for bouyancy). 99% of the artious crossing is on open seas with high waves, some up to 2-3 meters high. The ride was unbearably rough & the splashing water hit so hard it hurt; everything was soaked. The seats were bench style with nothing to hold on to. Imagine the most horrifying ride at an amusement park; this one is worse. It was so dangerous & horrifying that as soon as we arrived, we found an alternative form of transportation back to Santa Marta. Never again. I suggest you instead go to Neguanje by land and take a short 5 min launch to Playa Cristal.

Playa Cristal itself is OK; not as nice a beach as locals want you to believe. It is not a beach for children or persons who cannot swim. The sand is NOT white, which is what they claim. It gets deep very quickly and there was a light chop & strong current. It is a popular beach so it can get crowded easily. It gets very windy. Everyone raved about this particular beach but having been to many other beaches, it is just OK. The beauty & enjoyment of this beach is not worth The effort it takes to reach it.

From 2OO3to 2OO6 I was a regular at Tayrona and Cristal, really Playa de Los Muertos, was one of two favorites along with La Piscina. Brought my wife here to show a former favorite place only to be prevented from even going by the fact you must sit on your car in line at thegate from 3 or4 am until 8am opening to be granted access becauseof the limits. And the limits needed because of the ruinous overcrowding.

The boat from Taganga is only for the foolish or masochistic during Alisio wind season.

RIP mi querida Tayrona. Rodadero too, also completely ruined by overcrowding and we were there midweek!.

I'll never return to Colombia unless and until the PERCEPTION of insecurity returns to vitiate the crowds and bring back the Golden era of Colombian tourism. If you never got to enjoy it back then, when it was EMPTY, so empty you could go nude on many beaches as nobody else was there, you might still enjoy the place.

I was in this beautiful place four or five years ago, I really do not know when it has changed, but I had a quite pleasant experience, the water is so crystal clear that you can see the small fish passing by your side, they offer the services of food, recreation and transport

What a really nice spot outside of the public beaches of Santa Marta. Besides the sure beauty of this beach and the surroundings, no vendors harassing you every 2 minutes. Nobody bothers you to buy unwanted trinkets. Also, be ready for the bus ride on un paved roads for 45 minutes each way. It was worth it to me. The food was very authentic too.
