DO NOT GO THERE IF YOU ARE A TOURIST!!!!!!!!!!! Terrible scammers, super unsafe. On entrance there was a guard with a gun which I found suspicious, but the blue water tempted us further. After eating lunch and spending 3 hours on be beach - it was time to pay. Suddenly 5 guys surrounded us, since we were paying by card - an additional 0 was added to the bill and instead of paying the agreed 60 - we paid 600 USD!!!!!!! There is a tourist police station close by for a reason. Our friends had a similiar situation 2 days later.
I find it extremely saddening that in a country where so many people try hard to boost the tourism business an incident like this intensifies the feeling of danger in Columbia.

If you are a tourist, avoid this place. They’ll try to screw you up in every “restaurant”, and it’s an island so there’s a limited number of options.

Horribly place full of locals with loudspeakers, prices like in Marbella - Spain- but trust me that is NOT what you wasted your time by coming to Santa Marta or Colombia. You will be taken by some strangers little boat to the beach; around 15 minutes, then you will be discharged on the beach- dirty, smelly, with drunk people around.
Do NOT waste your time , don't get ripped off!

Save yourself time and money by volunteering in a hot, overcrowded refugee camp when you get home.
For full effect take a boom box with music you don’t like and then rub bacon grease on your chest to appropriately simulate the discomfort and attract the proper number of flies.
Extremely overcrowded with far more people than facilities to serve them

We started out wanted to just hang out on El Rodadero, but the congestion of vendors gave me anxiety. Your cooler cannot have alcohol it. You must wear a mask to enter the beach. So, we got up and went to playa Blanca. $15,000 COP or $3.50 per person to be taken by boat over to the island. The idea was to have a quieter experience. Less vendors, less people. The water was cold, clear but the sand was full of pebbles. Be sure to keep your ticket from the boat ride as you will need it for the return back. This beach closes at 4:30 in order to get everyone back bidirectional the 6 pm closure of the other beach. Not the best experience for my teen boys. With covid cases rising, the overwhelming amount of vendors approaching was too much.

To get to Playa Blanca you take a boat. The beach itself is not the nicest beach in the area. It is crowded, full of hawkers and closes early, if I remember correctly it was about 4 when we were asked to leave. Overhead there is a zip line so people are zipping back and forth.
Leaving the beach was chaotic since many people are leaving at the same time and must take the same boat they arrived on. We could not find our boat and after several telephone calls to the person who arranged the boat for us, we found it.
For a day at the beach, it is OK, just OK, but if you want a wide white sandy beach with few people and no hawkers head to Tayrona

The only way to get there is by boat. The scenic pictures shown on the internet are nothing like. Black sand and cold water.
It has nothing to do with playa Blanca.
Do not buy the package with meal included. They tell you that you can choose from 3 different restaurants but when you get there is the same kitchen serving 2 areas.
