- Michael YHouston, Texas698 contributionsMust see when in ChengduThis is a MUST DO activity when in Chengdu. Bring your passport if you are a foreigner. Try to go early in the day if possible. On the weekend at 8am, there are already significant crowds and lines. But it is amazing how many pandas you can see, and how close you can get to them.Visited June 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 12 June 2023
- e4202785 contributionsTop spot to see in ChengduVisited as part of the World University Games that was held in Chengdu. The tour was great - got to see pandas inside and saw art museum. The gift shop had great souvenirs at reasonable prices. Fair amount of walking so bring some water. Go to do several crafts that were included in the admission. Mask painting / bamboo ring making.Visited August 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 20 August 2023
- dyhx3,494 contributionsYou've not been to Chengdu if you didn't go hereStarted with the Kindergarden zone where the famous 花花 (荷花) and her less famous bro 荷叶 lives. 花花 shot to fame after a video of her went viral on Douyin and since then hoards of citizens / local tourists queue for hours to take photos/videos of her. Apparently any video of her is guaranteed viewership/interactions on social media. The queue on a non-peak day like today was 2.5 hrs, crazy. Follow the path to see the baby pandas at the Sun and Moon Delivery Houses (太阳/月亮产房). End the walk at the Red Panda (小熊猫) enclosure. These are not pandas per se, their faces look a little like them, with black patches round the eyes, but they are smaller in size, with long tails and move faster than a normal panda. They live together with pandas in the wild, a distant cousin of sorts. Fall-Winter are the best seasons to visit. Being the preferred weather by the pandas, they are more active, hence we have more to see too. Go in the morning too, as they tend to laze around after they've had their fill of bamboo.Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten 24 October 2023
- Narendra GChengdu, China80 contributionsAn amazing panda experience. This is an awesome experience visiting the panda sanctuary. Being a week day, it was packed with tons of people. The queues were crazy at some places. If you spend an additional 30 Yuan and visit the new section, it's absolutely awesome. Less crowded and better for viewing the pandabears. Loads of family fun when visiting. A must visit when in Chengdu.Visited November 2023Travelled soloWritten 3 November 2023
- ClaireLouiseDerbyshire, United Kingdom366 contributionsHuge place, very well organised and well cared for Pandas. 100% recommendWe visited on an overnight stop over in Chengdu. The place was easy to get to by metro (getting off at panda ave) then caught a tourist bus for 2CNY to the entrance . Very well organised. Reasonable entrance fee (ticket brought in advance online). Although busy we did get to see many Pandas and took many photos. The place was huge. We walked through from the south to west entrance. I 100% recommend.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 November 2023

I do highly recommend you go straight to the new Sun Hills Area because there are around 8 panda in each enclosure and you can view them from the cafe as well. Away from the crowd.Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten 25 November 2023

Went with a personal guide - easier unless you speak Mandarin. Very few, if any, English speakers around.
Was great to see these seemingly gentle creatures in a form of natural habitat. They mostly slept. Saw a bay panda that was born this summer so only a couple of months old. It was playing with a wicker basket, tumbling around.
Hundreds (ad I mean hundreds) of people on the walkways. - so really packed. Sit for the short documentary that is screened - goes in a loop so even if you start in the middle of it, you can stay and watch the rest. Its in mandarin but with English sub-titles.
Pandas are solitary creatures so most of the adults are in their own plot. Only the juveniles are grouped 3-4. Go early as that's when they are fed so you may see some movement
There is also the red pandas as they are called. Looked more like a racoon and similar size.

Lovely day out at the Pandas, not much to see in the new west entrance so spend it down in the old East entrance. Amazing chance to see lots of Pandas in their natural habitats and definitely a 100% must do in Chengdu

I’m sure in the cooler months of the year the experience is better. I very much appreciated the opportunity to visit but the experience with the crowds and the noise I have no trouble understanding why these seemly gentle giants are endangered. There are plenty of signs asking for quiet and to keep loud conversation to a minimum.. not a chance.. even the park “security” stands around using bullhorns.
All that said I am glad I made the effort to get a taxi so that I could visit what may be a once in a lifetime visit to Chengdu

Hello
Will be visiting in March and would like to know if the Panda Base Volunteer panda keeper is available be and suitable for children. We are excited to have close encounters with pandas. Also does the panda base offer the Panda photo opportunity ?
Thank you

You will see pandas in the grounds. The babies, in the nursery are behind glass and keepers keep the crowds moving on through. Get your camera ready and get a quick photo. There are so many people to get through, you don't have long. You will probably get better photos of the red pandas. They come up close. There are no special photo opportunities, you just have to snap what you see.

Hi- is there any where in the park where you can pay to leave luggage? Left luggage area?
Thank you!

I did not see any place that has luggage service that you want, however I really wasn't looking for it. I would suggest that you call or email the research center in order to get a definite answer. The research website should offer the contact info that you need.

Hi we have just booked a trip to China and visiting the Panda base in Sept 2021 but I see on our itinerary that we are visiting on a Saturday. Is it better to go midweek as I see some reviews mentioning the crowds. I will ask our travel planner to change days if necessary

We are transitting through chengdhu on our way to sri lanka and do not have a visa (there is a 140 hour allowance for transit). If there is time can we still visit the sanctuary or does it count as being out of the city limits?

Hi. I am in China from 7th September and this is one of the places we will be visiting - I am so excited. I just want to know how expensive the gift shop is? I have 6 grandchildren and would love to take something home from here for them. Thanks

If you see gift selling outside the park already, pls buy there, for sure cheaper than the gift shop inside. Panda toys are everywhere in Chengdu on the street, you don’t have to only target in the gift shop in the Zoo. Get up really early and enjoy the trip.
