The gallery is nice, but smaller than I would have thought for Shenzhen, which is home to many fine artists.

The main picture is wrong. Thats an OCT art museum. This review is the art museum at Donghu park.

Hard to get to. Small. Isolated. Not really worth the effort

This museum is a gem in Shenzhen. It's just a 5 min walk from Hua Qiao Cheng (OCT) metro station exit C and is worth a stop before you continue on to OCT loft to explore the hipster cafes, shops, and art exhibits.

This museum in constantly changing their exhibits so it's always a surprise to what you're getting. Most of the time, they have some cool interactive art. If you're traveling in shenzhen just for a few days, it would be worth a short stop over. Tickets are 20 yuan and you can usually spend about an hour there. There's not much else around it but you can just get back into the subway and got to Baishizhou for street food or Qiaocheng East for some nicer sit down restaurants.

Given how isolated this museum is, there should be something inside it to warrant a visit. When we visited a couple months ago, there was nothing inside but a few rooms of chinese calligraphy, which gets old after about 2-3 examples. The location of the museum could be great, with views over the huge reservoir in Luohu, but they don't take advantage of it. The building and location is nice, but as a museum it is terrible.

It is located in the East Lake Park, Shenzhen. Just take bus no. 17 from Lowu Bus Terminal and go directly to East Lake Park. However, you need to take about 10-15 minutes from the entrance to little bit uphill to this quiet and peaceful art museum. I visited a international watercolour painting exhibition and defintiely worth to see. Also, may be it was approaching to the end of exhibition period, I got 25% discount of this watercolour painting album. So good. After that, suggest also wander the East Lake Park and see the peaceful scenery out of this crowded city, Shenzhen.

I believe the reviewer before me has made a mistake and is reviewing the wrong place. In any case I have to say this - this museum is inside a park. What that means is that no taxis or buses can go directly to its entrance. In addition to that, you have to climb up a small hill inside to reach this place.
What this means is that you get an amazing view of the reservoir. However, when we were there, there was an exhibition of one artist's work. We were disappointed because we expected a permanent collection of diverse works by various artists and then maybe a room of a special exhibition by one artist.
You can see more if you go to Dafen Artists' Village. No need to go all out to see this unless you also wish to visit the park that it is in (the park is okay - there's a children fairground and a poorly-kept mini zoo).
