This is a neat place to visit. A small warning, it will take about 2 hours from downtown to get there. Also, all signs are in Chinese so you might want to go with a Chinese friend.

Dapeng fortress is about an hour by taxi from Shenzhen train station (Lo wu). However it is worth spending a day in this place. The fortress and the houses there are worth a visit. Inside the walled city, there are some signs to guide you....More

The fortress is amazing. It was crazy busy since we went during Chinese New Year but, were still able to experience the quiet back streets. There are old wells throughout the complex that still have water in them that can be pulled up with buckets....More

About an hour drive from the hui hotel in the city but taxis are cheap in China. There is a nice view on the way. The fortress is really an ancient town with nice alleys to explore. You can enter houses and look around. I...More

This place gives you a feel of old world China without having to venture far from Shenzhen. Plenty of eating options and souvenir shops. Quiet walks in the back streets are enjoyable. The flesh nibbling fish tanks are not to be missed. As long as...More

I spent a half day here wandering around the ancient walled city of Dapeng. It's a great variety of large courtyards to narrow street alleys with temples tucked in-between places. I believe this place is still inhabited, as the drying laundry and mailboxes indicate. Only...More

I visited the Ancient Walled City of Dapeng for about 2 hours on a Thursday morning. The entrance was free. The main entrance leads to a path that slopes slightly uphill towards a grand courtyard. It is not wheelchair friendly. On the day that I...More

This is a decent attraction. Get to see what traditional life would have been like. Nice architecture. Little shops and restaurants. Warning if you are a foreigner you will be stared at. Really out of the way location. But very clean air.

Dapeng Ancient Fortress is located in Dapeng Peninsula, Shenzhen. I admire the way they have preserved this ancient city and how close it actually is from the beach. Although I was a bit disappointed about the commercialization going on, it can still be very convenient...More

This is a nice old town with traditional Chinese architecture. It almost feels like you're walking through a movie, it doesn't seem real at all. By nightfall it gets very dark in the village, there's very little lighting which actually adds to the whole feel...More
