Quark Expeditions launched its "Fly the Drake" expedition from Dreams in downtown Punta Arenas. Dreams catered dinner for the 90 or so passengers on the expedition on the day before we took charter flights from Punta Arenas to King George Island. The hotel was clean, the cost had been included in the expedition, and my room was ready upon my arrival, even though I was a bit early.

The rooms I stayed in (both on the trip out and again on our return from Antarctica) were spacious, clean, and comfortable. I was sorry to see the hotel is still relying on single-use plastics for its bathroom amenities - time to make the switch.

Good rooms, wonderful location. Very helpful staff. We had an early morning trip and they boxed breakfast for us. I would highly recommend this hotel if in the area.

One of the places you have to at least call into if you are in Punta arenas. It is a bit of a walk but worth the effort

We stayed in Punta Arenas for one night as we were waiting for a trip to Isla Magdalena to see penguins. Alas, the trip was canceled because of the weather, which is a common occurrence in the area. We weren’t in a particularly happy mood, which might have tainted our experience of the hotel. It’s a decent, large property with amazing views of the waterfront (if you’re lucky/smart enough to book a water view room). It has a casino downstairs and there is a nice pool and gym area on the second floor. Apart from the views, rooms were pretty average in terms of furniture and decor: nice, roomy enough, but definitely old fashioned. Breakfast was crowded and uninspired but, again, functional enough. There is no concierge at the hotel. It’s about 4 or 5 blocks from the main square and there are plenty of restaurants nearby. All in all, we had a fine short stay but totally lacking in charm.

The food and drinks were good. The rooms were beautiful. Unfortunately we had trouble with the A/C in our room, so they brought us a fan.
Be careful with the shower doors...they will spill into the rest of the bathroom area.
The Sky Bar does not open until six. Be sure and check out the view from the ladies bathroom stalls at the Sky Bar... surprisingly nice!

Loved out stay here at Dreams. We were looking for a clean and comfortable 4 star hotel while visiting Punta Arenas but most that we saw were 2 to 3 star hotels (*motel). Dreams offers the best rooms in Punta Arenas I believe. Its location is super convenient and is only a few blocks away from the cruise port.

BOTTOM LINE: Excellent hotel. I can't comment on the Casio since we do not gamble but was not a large "Vegas type casino. Our room was a junior-suite and it was very large and had a 5-Star bathroom, tub and shower. The breakfast buffet was 5-Star in quality and choices. If you are arriving early for an Antarctica excursion, cruise or Patagonia adventure, I highly recommend staying here. You will not be disappointed if you are looking for something more than a hike hostel or Days Inn. The front check-in staff spoke mostly English and were very helpful. Pricing is closer to most USA quality 4-Star hotels. They have both a coffee shop restaurants and higher-end restaurants. We ate at both and we found both up to USA standards. They do have a resort-spa here too. MY RATING: 9/10.

*By the way, Motels here have a much different meaning in Chile than the USA. In El Salvador they would call these "push button" motels, or "by-the-hour" anonymous quickie motels. Most of the motels we drove by and saw were "flea-bag" run down looking and have small cabin like rooms with a curtain covered parking space next to them and a "red light" or "green light" that shows which are available or which was being "used".

Dreams hotel is by far the premier Hotel in Punta Arenas. Although it is pricier than other hotels its views of the harbour and the hotel amenities are fantastic. The staff was very accommodating to changes in itinerary and offered great advice as to what was available in the quaint town of Punta Arenas.

The con:
- the common parts are rather ugly
- the brekfast is varied, but the quality is rather weak
- the sound proofing between rooms is poor: once can hear easily the neighboring rooms

The pros:
- Good location
- Large superior rooms with sea view, very cosy, pleasant and comfortable, with a beautiful view
- Comfortable bed
- Swimming pool (indoor :-) )
- Efficient staff

Overall, the hotel will ensure a nice and comfortable stay in Punta Arenas

The Hotel Dreams Del Estrecho is true to its’s word. It is modern, has excellent dining, and super-friendly staff. Rooms are on the higher end and if you are above the 4th floor you get a pretty good view of the city (the view we had) and if you are on the other side you get a great view of the ocean. The hotel is strategically located for hitting local shops, restaurants, and the local grocery store Unimarc. Also, there is a casino attached to the hotel.
A word about the hotel’s dining. It is buffet style which makes it easy given it is a large hotel with many guests, however, this is no ordinary buffet. It is top-shelf with excellent choices of local cuisine as well as the normal fare. The open fire rotisserie is a treat to see. The wait staff is friendly and helpful. The outside wall of the dining area is all glass with a view of the ocean and the local dock area – great sight to look at as you dine.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Hotel Dreams.
