The museum is in a perfect location just near the beach on Baquedano, the popular pedestrian street downtown. I often stop in and walk around the museum when it's really hot out or I have some time to kill. The workers are incredibly friendly, but...More

Has quite an eclectic collection, ranging from 3000 BC to early 20th century gramaphones. Entrance is entirely free. Most of signage is in Spanish, but there is some English. Definitely helps if you have some Spanish knowledge, but many exhibits speak for themselves.

At first sight, this seems a strange museum with a jumble of ancient mummies, stuffed animals, and odd bits, but the most interesting areas are the rooms explaining the history of the nitrate industry. Not only are there explanations of important events, the people who...More

I saw mummies, pottery, textiles, hunting tools, and a huge collection of the salt boom era. Many rooms and free to enter. There is a little bit of history from seemingly every era, from the Inca up until the salt boom era with more modern...More
