MY wife and I had three nights on the Chobe Princess 1 towards the end of June 21. The houseboat experience was very good but was marred by very unfriendly and rude staff at the Impalila Police Station on Impalila Island, where the Immigration and health inspector was located. Unfortunately our travel agent failed to advise us that we needed another Covid test to get into Namibia (The Chobe Houseboat is located on the Namibian side of the Chobe River) WE had already spent 6 nights in Botswana at Reserves, and they would have accepted our Covid test results if they were only 7 days old but they were 8 days old. The young inexperienced health inspector did not know what to do with us. WE are British but have SA Permanent Residence status and live in Cape Town. After having a meeting in the middle of the River with the owners of the boat it was eventually agreed that we would have to isolate on the boat away from other guests until we produced another negative Covid test the following day which we did. But this bad experience marred our holiday for this part of the trip. The boat staff were however excellent (Luckily we had booked the upstairs superior cabin so could have our meals upstairs away from the other 5 guests. The food and service were all excellent and we even had our own separate game viewing from a smaller boat until we could mix with the other guests. Overall the service and attention we got from the staff was very good. Would certainly recommend this trip and hope you do not have the same problem as ours. The Namibian authorities need to send their staff on communication skills in dealing with tourists. Their aweful attitide is not going to attract tourists to that part of Namibia. The Head of Police told my wife to "F O and not to bring your dirty diseases into our country "

We experienced a late afternoon cruise on the peaceful Chobe River while touring in Africa. It is, simply put, a breath taking experience. You view herds of elephants, and hippos grazing, crocodiles, water foul, and so much more. The sunset was exquisite, and a lasting memory from our African trip. Make time to do this on your adventure!

My wife. And I spent 3 nights on The Chobe Princess 2 cruise boat. The boat had 4 cabins and 5 crew. Our cabin (No 3) was adequate, but a little small. It was very functional but not overly luxurious. The double bed was very comfortable, the cabin had a large patio-door type window (with incorporated mosquito screen) and the small shower room/toilet was okay. The 5 crew were exceptional...all men. They were very professional and attentive and nothing was too much trouble. The chef was excellent as was the food he provided. It was full-board, and plenary of it. The atmosphere on board was professional but relaxed. We were very fortunate in that the other 3 cabins were occupied by excellent people and we all got on extremely well. Had this not been the case, being a compact and small space for 8 guest could have been a little tricky if you didn't get on. All meals were served at 1 long table which worked for us as the conversation and banter around the table was just great. There was also an abundance of wildlife which could be seen from the Chobe Princess, from 1 of the smaller tenders (which held up to 8 comfortably), or on a smaller tender if you wanted to try a bit of fishing...which I did and was very good. Our only criticism would be the common area cleanliness and attention to detail. Naturally being in the wild, evening lighting attracted bugs and flies. This wasn't a major problem for me but my wife didn't like this aspect at all. At evening dinner, lights were on away from the dining table so no intrusion of insect at dinner. However, the insect would die and fall to the floor, and these were not always cleared up immediately and could lay around for a few hours the following day. Also, the dining room and lounge area was surrounded by folding patio doors on 3 sides (a great feature) but they didn't look as though they had been properly cleaned for some time. Overall, 3 days was just right, and the spectacle of scenery and wildlife was quite amazing. We were pleased we did it.

The majority of the animals are just there, no need to get lucky. The rhinos have disappeared and the big cats were hiding. But everything else is just grazing, bathing or feasting on carcasses of the less fortunate.
