Visiting the Jesuit Missions of the Chiquitania is like travelling into the past. The old churches have been well restored and are still part of the daily life of the neighbouring. Villages are modest and driven by mototaxi, tourism is at the minimum.

The churches and their architectural design are very interesting to see but the distances involved and road conditions present a challenge.

I have been to the Jesuit missions several times and each time I was thrilled by them. They are so different from any other church in the world. The story behind them is also interesting. On my next trip I will do the full circuit.
