The iris farm is astounding. It isn't really an advertised attraction, but is open to the public, and is free. Gardeners who are interested can even keep track of their favorite plants and request rhizomes, in season. But anyone with a heart for beauty can enjoy rambling around the fields, marveling at the hundreds of colors and forms on display. The work and knowledge involved in maintaining these fields is beyond impressive. It's awesome.

This is a hidden surprise! Many residents of Alliance don't know this exists. Visit around Memorial Day. It is worth an hour drive to see the plethora of all the different iris. There are SO MANY different colors and varieties you won't believe you are in someone's yard. There are literally acres of flowers taken care of by hand.

This Iris Farm is a sight to behold when it is in full bloom! Visitors may drive thru or park and walk. It has expanded over the years and the owners have propagated an extensive variety of irises. Carefully organized and labeled. You can take photos of your favorites and their label so you would know which ones you might want to buy later when it would be ideal planting season. They also have a website: http://www.bluejiris.com/ It is a labor of love and a wonderful feature for Alliance, Nebraska.

We came across this quite by accident last spring when we took a wrong turn. We were there at the peak of the blooming season. It was absolutely beautiful and smelled even more wonderful. I couldn't believe how many iris varieties they had there. It was a sight to behold. I've never ordered from them, but just to visit during blooming season is great.
