We really enjoyed this museum! The works and life of the Poet Al Oqaili were interesting, but the workings of the house itself were the best part for us. I highly recommend it as part of wandering around Old Dubai. We got off at the Al Ras metro station, visited this museum, and then visited some souks in the way to the Deira Old Souq Marine Transport Station. That worked very well.

The former house of one of Dubai’s most popular poets of classical Arabic poetry, Al Oqaili symbolizes the life of one colorful dignitary. It is amazing how well the house had been restored since the 1300’s, also it is very well curated and maintained. The furniture is traditional antique that would reflect the kind of furniture used during the time of the poet’s life. Likewise, some of his verses are beautifully decorated in various parts of the house. If you have time, this is one amazing museum to visit.

It's not the easiest task locating this museum, one needs to enter the Deira Grand Souq and pass through a couple of narrow lanes to get here. This 2-storey building is a nice example of traditional architecture in the dynamic city of Dubai.
This was where the poet Al Oqaili lived and composed many of his works. One can see how the poet lived and many of his possessions, including his Persian rugs, gun and poetry notebook. The lower floor has plenty of illustrations on his life, poetry and words of wisdom, while the upper floor has his majlis and manuscripts.
One can combine this with a visit to the nearby Spice and Gold Souks. One can spend around 30 minutes here, the place is clean and well-maintained. Make a note of the timings; it is closed on Friday, Saturday and holidays and on other days, is open till 2 pm only. Entry is free and public Wi-Fi is available.

Al Oqaili was a famous poet who resided in UAE. I have tried to find the place on my own and even asked people about it but in vain. I found a museum at the entrance of the Spice Souk, so I went in and asked a staff member if he knows where it was. He was nice enough to take me there himself.
It turns out that the house is inside the Spice Souk itself, it is one of those one floor old houses. I took a tour around the museum and read about the poet's life, works and influence. It is a very small museum which won't take long to tour.
The Emarrati woman who worked at the museum was very friendly and asked me to write feedback about the place before I leave. I left my feedback, mainly stressing on the point of having difficulty locating the place and suggested they put up signs to help people like me to find their way.
The entrance is free, so if you have the time, you can check it out and learn about the poet's life.
