The "Falcon Heritage and Sports Center" is situated near the Meyden racecourse in Nad Al Sheba -1 and caught a taxi at Dubai Mall bus stand to reach my destination. It was a magnificient building resembling a small fortress from the exterior. The Falcon is the national symbol of the Emirates and falconry a part of Emirates culture and history that helped the Bedouin survive and hunt in the harsh desert .In the present era the falcon is used as a sport in "Falcon Races" and "Falcon Hunting".
Meydan Racecourse entrance .
Entrance is free and on entering the building was immediately in the midst of a large plush circular air-conditioned hall with numerous shops on the periphery.I was the only lone foregner tourist in this 5-star style Falcon bird setting and was akin to entering a small plush mall in Dubai. The " Falcon Heritage and Sports Center" was definitely not on the popular tourist itinerary of Dubai, a totally niche hobby of the wealthy.Unbelievable plush shops dealing in trading of falcons and falcon accessories. As i was the lone tourist it was a advantage and could personally visitshop's and speak to the owners/handler's of the falcon bird's.There were also plush veterinarian clinics to treat the bird's.Visited one of the shops "Aljera Falcons Trading" managed by a young Pakistani and was amazed at seeing over ten Falcon's tied to a handle post with their hood's covering their face.
The young Pakistani owner Mr Mohammed.Zaman explained me the breeding and maintenance of Falcons with their price ranging from a minimum of 5000 AED to a endless upper limit depending on the buyer, akin to bidding for a prized race horse. Was not surprised to know that every Falcon bird had a special "Falcon Passport".Last of all visited the palatial falcon museum which was a natural history museum on the Falcon bird with a history of traditional Emirati hunting with the falcon bird.In another gallery were photograph's of Emirati Ruler's photographed during hunting expeditions with falcon's. A must visit if interested in birds or natural history.

The falcon souk is already closed permanently around meydan area. They have move to Warsan 1 area. Different ambiance on their new location the culture and tradition vibe were lacking on their new location.

After the end of our falcon adventure, our guide took us to this Souk. We were able to visit the vets office and watch them examine some hawks. We went to the various stores looking at the birds that were for sale and the equipment. Not sure if it is worth a separate trip but was a nice capstone to our falcon adventure

Nice little museum about falconry. Just a little bit out of the main area's, but worth a detour if you are interested in the art of falconry and the meaning it has in Arabian culture.

The Falcon Heritage Centre is one of the best offbeat destinations in Dubai. Located next to the Meydan racecourse, it is slightly out of the way, unless one comes by taxi or their own vehicle.
Nevertheless, this center is worth a nice visit. The Falcon Museum had a number of interesting and well maintained exhibits highlighting the falcon bird and the sport of falcon hunting, which is popular in the region. There is also a souk, where one can take a look at the variety of falcons on display. This museum offers excellent value and what's more, it's free!

At first I wasn't very keen on visiting the museum. But once I was in I was a different world. We learned a lot about the falcons.

We visited the display / museum which was a little 'lame' but did help us learn about falconing and its history and importance to emirates
However the most interesting part of this location is the Falcon Souk - where you're quite welcome to walk around about a dozen shops selling everything you need for this sport - including the falcons / hawks themselves. This was by far the best part of the visit. The staff and customers are all very friendly and you can get a drink at the cafe there and they will call you a taxi when you want to get back into town

The Falcon Museum in Dubai is a wonderful place. It is so informative, not only on Falcons but also on the sport of falconry and the equipment used today.....and it's free!
Also, adjoining the museum is a souk for all things to do with Falcons and a veterinary clinic for Falcons. There were so many Falcons in the shops and sitting on perches. One trainer let me touch his birds.

The museum has great detail and history of Falcons. Got there via travelling by metro, bus and taxi from Bur Dubai. A bit out of way but well worth it.
