Purchased a Gold Card, well worth the extra so we tavel in comfort generally as it can become crowded at certail times of the day. Very clean and reliable.Visited March 2023Written 20 March 2023
- Ljubomir DBosnia and Herzegovina239 contributionsDubai MetroClean, on time, sometimes crowded. One can buy daily ticket or Silver NOL card for 25AED and get 19EAD balance. With this silver card you can use Metro, Bus Tram. Check balance or add new balance can be done in evry station.Visited March 2023Written 4 April 2023
- ANAND KSingapore, Singapore200 contributionsCheapest Way Around DubaiThe Dubai Metro is the cheapest and fastest way around in the linear city. Tickets are really affordable and they do go everywhere. We took a longish ride from the financial Center all the way to Atlantis, boarded a train, a tram and a monorail. all cool. That's the only downside - the tickets aren't valid across network. You may need to buy new tickets at for example the monorail. but otherwise, the train is a great option to go around. You can even use foreign credit cards to buy short-term tickets.Visited March 2023Written 8 April 2023
- Fortune_MadhukuHarare Province, Zimbabwe462 contributionsConvenientFast, reliable and very convenient for the budget traveller. Most attractions in Dubai can be reached by metro - Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, Gold Souk etc. Some places like JBR beach can be reached by a combination of metro and tram. You can even shuttle to the airport terminal 1 and terminal 3 if you do not have many bags. Very cheap considering that most trips are less than $2. The trick is to book a hotel that is within walking distance from a metro station.Visited March 2023Written 9 April 2023
- Wanderer07734441956Dubai, United Arab Emirates1 contributionThe right to sit should be revised and clear especially in silver cabinBest metro 🚇, fast, convenient and comfortable. However, the right to sit shouldn’t be taken for granted……standing from center point to expo 2020 isn’t cool, denying men to sit in there right places shows imbalance yet it’s clearly written only if the person is old, pregnant or baby is allowed to take sit from silver cabin but not finding someone sited already for a long time and make noise for that particular person simply because you are a lady. Women may have the right to sit but the right love isn’t owned by anyone, so mind about other people’s situation whether man or woman because no body knows how the other is feeling maybe sick or anything else …Visited April 2023Travelled soloWritten 11 April 2023
- PARESH D9 contributionsBest transportation service in dubaiThis is one of the best and cheapest ways to travel in dubai. Very easy very convenient. The downsides are very crowded most of the time so you hardly get to seat down even if you journey is long. Some journeys can be even longer than 40 minutes. It has limited reach so some areas are not covered and even where it does go to you will still need to walk to and fro from the exact place you want to go to.Visited April 2023Written 12 April 2023
- TREVOR W8 contributionsDubai Metro SystemVery efficient and cheap mode of transport around Dubai. Trains and stations are very clean and well air-conditioned. Beware some station stops are not close to visitor sites such as Burj Khalifa. Trains can get very busy. I would recommend the Silver Nol card as a means of payment for rides.Visited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 June 2023
- ROBIN B3 contributionsGreat way to exploreClean, safe, and easy to navigate. Downside-traveling during rush hour, everyone is in a rush, and metro guides are shouting at everyone. Also be sure not to accidentally get on the gold car, unless you have purchased a ticket.Visited June 2023Written 21 June 2023

This is a cheap, clean and efficient way to travel around parts of Dubai, including to and from the airport.
The metro does get extremely busy around peak times so an upgrade to a gold ticket is worth it if you can afford it.
It also offers great views of the skyline, in particular DIFC.

It's the only metro available in the city. It's good to travel with, it's connected along the shore of Dubai. It has major stops around the entire metro line. It's a good initiative by the UAE Government to improve public transport

The first thing we did was getting the RTA cards and it's so convenient to use the metro. Can get very busy at times and that's something I love about the hustle. The stations and the trains are very clean and the stations have convenient stores too. Saves you a lot of time and money to get around Dubai. Very very convenient.

Buses and metro smells so bad. Both are crowded. We have to wait so long for the buses to arrive but when it does, some drivers would place-the bus is out of order.with metro, its very crowded and the bad smell us all over. Buses and metro should be cleaned and disinfected everyday

Worst metro. I have travelled in most countries. Over crowded. Staff is extremely rude and un helpful. Dubai being a tourist center Dubai metro should hire staff who are compassionate and customer service oriented. Would never travel again.

It a normal modern looking system but don’t think it’s like any other system
in london, Hong Kong, Singapore or Madrid, the system is Severely overcrowded anytime of the day, it’s only served to transport the worker around to support the running of the city, it’s all taken by Majority of male and people have absolutely no curtesy or manners pushing around in using the rather modem system. And it’s stink! We have been here 5 days on (not tight) budget tourist in the city, have been using Uber/Bus/metro, Im already started to feel really tired of it. I can’t help feeling hating to go down to the metro one extra day. can’t wait to leave this city if I need to use the dubai metro anymore soon.

Fast, cheap, well placed stations and everything you want from a metro (although overground, not a subway). However, like all big cities it gets uncomfortably crowded at and around the peak times.
I was fortunate that, being female, I could enter the quieter Woman & Children cabins and most often get a seat even when a busy time. Would have been a nightmare otherwise.
I do also like how Dubai metro stations with there large black/gold tunnels outside are very easy to spot even from a distance. Better than looking out for a small 'M' sign for sure!

It is walkable, there are travelators but we lost count after the 8th so don't under estimate the time it takes from the metro, also strangely there are no obvious signs for it so just keep heading into the mall.

Where to buy the gold card from the airport?
How much it cost?

1st, you have to be at a Metro station to purchase any ticket. Gold is kind of a waste, unless you really need to be partitioned from the masses. I'm sure it's less crowded at peak hours though.
2 No refunds, give the card away when you leave.
3 The card works on trains and trams, for sure. We didn't use the buses.
Google Dubai Metro for map and stations.
4 We used Uber, probably less than a taxi.
Good luck.
