- ABG22 contributionsDo not go as a solo femaleThis place is FULL of scammers. The sellers chase you down, harass you, and make you feel uncomfortable. They STARE, so if you go, cover up. Do not go as a solo female. I felt so uncomfortable that I left after 30 minutes. These sellers have no decency. This is a tourist trap where you will be bothered and it’s not worth it.Visited January 2023Travelled soloWritten 12 January 2023
- LizaSlovenia3 contributionsNot a fanI was a bit uncomfortable cause the sellers were extremely pushy. When you go inside the store it's almost impossible to get out without buying anything. My brother literally got dragged into a store In one store the seller at first wanted us to pay 400aed just for some spices. we negotiated the price down to 200 aed but that's still too much just for a couple of spices in my opinion. nevertheless it was an interesting experienceVisited January 2023Travelled with familyWritten 5 February 2023
- Alan MGympie, Australia846 contributionsNot just spices, just walk past the hustlers with no eye contactAppearance, smells etc similar to the past except gone is the genteel approach of the locals as the place is staffed by pushy Asians trying to catch an unwary tourist, in any language you care to choose. Nowadays we find it simpler to buy from a major brand such as Bayara from Carrefour for reliable quality at a reasonable price. Such a shame this seems to be the price of progress! However, if you are interested in semi-precious stones, beads, trinkets etc you could do worse than visiting Shop No. B-2, near National Tailoring near one end of the souk, where Ibrahim Khan will make it a pleasure for you to spend money ! I know, I paid the bill.Visited February 2023Written 8 February 2023
- Robert ORotterdam, The Netherlands3,826 contributionsColourful fragrant souk in DeiraThe spice souk in Deira is just behind the abra ferry station, which can be easily reached by the 1 dirham boat in Bur Dubai near Ghubaiba metrostation. It is a very colourful and odour rich area with narrow alleys and lots of people. You can see many different kind of spices. For me, many I had never seen or heard of. As mentioned by others the vendors can be rather pushy and insistent. Look determined, keep the direction of your eyes downward and walk through. If you want to buy, do not start a bargaining proces if you do not know the price. The vendors in this area have much more experience in dealing with potential buyers than you have with dealing with wicked dealers. Keep in mind: you are never obliged to buy anything, also not after taking a photo or entering a shop and having a tea.Visited December 2022Written 17 February 2023
- Sue WIlkeston, United Kingdom990 contributionsInteresting to seeThis place looks amazing with all the spices piled high, fresh dates, teas and lots of cleaning and healing crystals. It also has lots of tourist type gifts that the vendors are desperate for you to look at and buy. Be careful when buying that you clarify the price. Sometimes it seemed to be per kilo and at other times it was a lesser weight.Visited February 2023Travelled soloWritten 22 February 2023
- The Viscount7 contributionsThe constant haranguing from sellers is a major detraction from this colourful SoukThere were apparently some locals shopping here, but I suspect that this place is mainly for the benefit of tourists. I lost count of the number of times we were accosted with offers of (fake) watches and handbags - 'Just come inside and look, no need to buy' with an intensity bordering on desperation. So many shops apparently selling exactly the same goods - not sure what's really going on. The Spice sellers' tactics were mainly to leap out and thrust something in your face and ask 'Do you know what this is?' Of course, after the 20th time this happened, we were able to answer correctly which made them look crestfallen. There were no prices shown on anything at all, so I guess you'd have to be seriously good at haggling, if indeed there was anything you wanted to buy. We saw several heavily veiled women shopping, being meekly trailed by male porters pushing sack barrows loaded with their purchases, so there is evidently some 'real' shipping done here. The constant haranguing by sellers was exhausting and detracted from what could have been an interesting experience in this colourful souk.Visited March 2023Written 18 March 2023
- ruthandvernWilton, California15,442 contributionsFour for the sights and sounds and smellsWe took the Metro to the Dubai Creek at the Spice Souk and had a lovely afternoon. The souk is the traditional style with vendors stalls and stores in rows, many selling the same products. We do not appreciate being harassed so as soon as we passed a vendor sitting quietly outside his shop we went in. I'm not a driven barterer and the prices were fair so we picked up some jasmine flowers for tea, some butterfly tea mix, and a 1/2 kilo shelled raw pistachios. Great buys. The best of the souk is people watching. The visual effects of the mounded spices on display reminded me of the spice bazaar in Istanbul.Visited May 2023Written 23 May 2023
- TravelingSoccerLoonSaint Paul, Minnesota3,188 contributionsIt's a Flea Market with Pushy VendorsVisting the Old Souk area including the Spice Souk left me somewhat disappointed. It's fun to take an Abra across the Dubai Creek and this is a good place to pick up some inexpensive souvenirs, but the souk did not provide the exotic or energetic experience that I was expecting. It is essentially a flea market similar to that you can find in many large cities but here with pushy and annoying vendors who will constantly pester you as you try to enjoy the experience.Visited November 2022Written 24 July 2023
- らわManchester, United Kingdom1,509 contributionsVariety of spices, remember to haggleI don’t cook anything other than basic stuff like omelettes, so my knowledge of spice is zero. However my mum who likes to cook and use a variety of spices understood and enjoyed this. The Saffron is dirt cheap here. Especially if you bargain, as it’s like 10 times more expensive in the UK. The shop we bought, pure saffron 2 grams for 50 Durhams. You can probably get it cheaper elsewhere but the spices here are plentiful and affordable compared to the West.Visited November 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 26 November 2023

I was so excited to go to get spices for my wife and something for her to wear. the smells and sights were intoxicating. BUT- I was bullied, harassed and overcharged by the aggressive hawkers who stand in front of every store, will literally grab you and try to drag you inside. if you go be prepared to be uncomfortable, haggle hard with them, and if not satisfied with the price - walk away.

My wife was really looking forward to having a close look at the spices for sale and buy a few, but every time she got within five metres of a shop she was pounced on by a far too eager shopkeeper and she neither had a close look or made any subsequent purchases. Interesting to look around, but I am sure the shops would make more slaes if they were less pushy.

Bit sleazy, very pushy and women may find it uncomfortable. Depending where you are staying can be a trip to get there. Suggest going at daytime not night like we did.

Very unique with many vendors of cultural goods. The spices and gold are some of if not the best in the world.

This is beside the gold souk and is worth a visit and the smells are amazing. Lots to choose from if you wish to buy and bartering is a must. It wasn’t as big as we thought it would be but still interesting to see.

The souks would be amazing if they didn't hassle you at every stall.
You just need to learn to repeat ''I don't want any spices, I don't want any cashmere and I don't want any I love Dubai t-shirts.''

Our Travel Agent recommended we visit just to look/for the experience. It was hot, dirty and we were constantly hassled. We didn't even want to stop to look. A lot of the shops were selling junk imported items. I definitely didn't enjoy the visit and wouldn't recommend it

If you mean dates then you can barter a good price at the souk but to be honest the supermarkets can be just as cheap and have an excellent range.

We paid about $30 US for a good sized jar. Make sure to test it before buying. Put a small pinch in water and it should be golden. If it turns red, the saffron is dyed and low quality.
were you able to take spices back to usa?

Which shop is good for buying spices?
Tell me the name?

Hello. As already answered by Yvette_11, there are several shops to the right as you enter the souk. I can’t recall the names of the shops we bought from.
Depending on the spices and quantity you wish to buy, bargaining can help you get competitive rates.
The quality is good for most spices and excellent for dates. As the dates are not under a brand name, are sold by weight and packed on delivery, the cost is lower than the same variety sold in malls.
A little homework on rates and variety of spices you wish to buy before you enter the souk will be invaluable.
Hope this helps. Have a safe trip and enjoyable shopping.

Hola, alguien sabe de qué especias se compone un paquete típico que habían en varios puestos? Eran 8 o 9 en una bolsa. En pequeños paquetes cuadrados. Gracias!

Hi
We are staying outside the city but will be getting the complimentry bus that drops at Dubia Mall.
What would be the best way to get to the Spice and Gold souks from there.
We would like to cross the creek on a water taxi.

You can get there by car - take about 15 minutes from Dubai Mall - but you wanted to go on the Creek - suggest you head for the Creek by taxi and have them drop you at a boat landing. The boat can take you direct to the landing about 5 minute walk from the Spice Souk - the Gold Souk is about a further 5 - 10 minute walk from there.

Io ho contrattato molto sulla noce moscata, che mi serviva. Da 50 € al Kg richieste, l'ho pagata 25, di ottima qualità. In genere tutte le spezie sono molto buone e profumate ma il prezzo di partenza é alto.
