Horrible market with dying pets. A person can't breathe because of the gross smell and condition over their. Don't dare to go there with your kids.

If you want to see dying dogs, cats, birds, often tortured: go to Tollinton market. Awful place. It is not for those who love animals

I have gone there many times in the past when it was a real grocery market. A neat and clean place. Now it has been converted into a museum and it is proving very helpfull to visitors to gain knowledge of Lahore.

Tollinton Market built by the British about a century ago is now a museum. It is located right next to the Lahore Museum and its worth paying a quick visit here before you go in for the main attraction i.e., the Lahore Museum.

During my studies in National College Of Arts Lahore from where I graduated in Architecture in 1979, visited this market while going to Anar Kali Bazaar so many times. it was not selected as a heritage at that time and was a running market, Condition was not very good at that time. Since 1979 had no opportunity to visit this place as I shifted to KSA. last year 2016 just passed thru the Mall at 7.30 PM going towards PC to attend a wedding Party and saw this market. Could not visit again , yet all those who love old buildings and intend to learn the history shall visit this area as it surrounds many historical buildings, like Lahore Museum, NCA, PU, Old and New Anar Kali, Grave of Qutub Din Aibak the Moughal Emperor.

Tollinton Market also known as the Lahore heritage museum offers a pictorial insight into the past of Pakistan, especially Lahore. Though the approach seems good i found that the collection was not vast enough. It was fun going through all the pictures but i wish there were more. However, it does primarily display the history of a single city so i guess i can't complain.

I am reviewing this market because it holds many childhood memories for me. This building was built as an exhibition hall for the 1864 "Punjab Exhibition of Arts and Industry". In 1920 Sir Ganga Ram remodeled the building and turned it into a Market named Tollinton Market after H.P. Tollinton, Secretary Punjab Government. The beautiful building built on bungalow design, with wooden verandahs, sloping roof and dormer windows, is so special for all of us born and bred in Lahore. This is because this was the place where everyone went for their monthly provisions. I too used to go there every month with my mother, maternal aunt and cousins. This was also the famous pet market of the city so it really fascinated me. I remember that my aunt used to get us freshly made burgers from the kiosk in the main hall. I was very upset when a few years back there were rumors that the land mafia was demolishing this wonderful market to build a plaza there. But the citizens of Lahore protested against this horrendous act and the Tollinton Market was saved. Well not just saved but restored and converted to elegant exhibition halls of the Lahore Heritage Museum. Visiting this restored building and the museum was a very happy occasion for me.
