Local custom is to offer gold leaf on to Buddha. Over the time the application of gold leaf has made the Buddha glitter in all its grandeur. The atmosphere is agog with spiritual chanting and its a must visit place in Mandalay.

This place is grand and beautiful. The locals are friendly and as a male you are allowed to enter the Buddha to put gold on it. Overall you can walk around and take amazing picture of both the temple and the locals.

Lovely although very busy as it is the number 1 pagoda in Mandalay. Only men are allowed in the pagoda of the buddah so not really alot for women but good to look at.
