The catacombs here are interesting but, definitely not like other catacomb sites around the world. There are no human bones to see, just walking in and viewing the areas of burial. There are some steps to go inside and the flooring all dirt and can...More

A good example of roman intelligence and construction techniques but not as interesting as thos I saw in Rome or in Palermo (Italy). Worthwhile when you visit Alexandria the Roman and >Greek period is still practically undiscovered. The catacombs were discovered by a donkey!

I wish more people could visit this amazing landmark. I think the area that this is located in may deter visitors away. It's also not easy to find, because it is in the center of residential living. I recommend an assisted tour that speak the...More

These catacombs were the highlight of my half-day visit to Alexandria. I was interested in seeing this attraction as I had already see the catacombs in Rome and I was not disappointed. The carvings are an intriguing mix of Greek, Roman, and Egyptian influences as...More

We have been to catacombs around the world and these were the most interesting. Do not judge them before you go based on previous experiences. I recommend a trip to the catacombs.

Despite its long and important history, Alexandria does not have many ancient sites. One such site that does survive is the catacombs - underground burial sites from Egypt's Roman period. They are worth a visit, but don't expect to be overwhelmed. They are nowhere near...More

This was an "added-in" side trip on our tour, but it was VERY GOOD. Interesting and worth the stop! Be aware that there are stairs to access the catecomb.

I was a little disappointed here after having read about it. I was not allowed to take pictures, yet pictures via phone were allowed, so I did get some. The site itself was still worth my time. The place reeks of historical significance and some...More

This place is consisting enormous history inside it, so better go with Guide. Most of the attractions in Egypt are worth visiting with Guide. Photography is not allowed inside!

The catacombs shouldn't take more than one hour. And yes, you pay a fee that is not much... Cant remember exactly how much it was... We went with family and friends and didn't walk to Pompey's Pillar, but definitely enjoy... More

An hour should be more than enough for the catacombs, depending on how long you have to queue (you'll probably only be inside for 20 mins, 30 at most). I didn't go directly between them and Pompey’s Pillar but I don't think... More
