Went there on 2 separate occasions, 6 years apart. Unfortunately still closed, still not restorated. So sad, the area has so much potential. At least is really clean and the view up there is really nice. Also the citadel is still remarkable for its walls 😅

Not worth the walk up the hill, closed and derelict. There are some views, but these are mostly of the new town, which is boring.

Unfortunately it wasn't possible to go inside the Citadel when I visited in Nov 2019 - not sure if it was just the day I went or if it is permanently closed. Of course there were no signs to provide any information. But there are still great views over the town and the Citadel itself is quite attractive.

Quite big citadel overlooking the city, north of the old town. Quite a site, with great views to offer.

It's a short, 15-minutes, relatively easy (definitely not strenuous) hike up the steps through the neighborhood to Citadel. You can also drive up. We walked up at night (hence did not go inside Citadel). Nice view below as you walk the periphery.

Access to "Citadel o the guard" can be done by car, but it is much more pleasant to access on foot, even if you have to climb the streets with slope. Everything would be great if you could visit the interior of the fortress, a place where, until recently, activities were carried out that recreate the medieval atmosphere of the 16th - 17th centuries. Disappointing!

We tried visiting this iconic XVI century landmark...well,we couldn't. It was locked!
As a matter of fact the gate was opened and some men were standing by a car parked inside and they told us to leave because the place is in the process of being restored.I didn't see anyone working ,though !
Anyway ,I remember when the citadel was not only open but it had a few wonderful restaurants ;among them was a medieval themed one where they played classical music and the staff was wearing specific costumes of the medieval times
None of those now...from the outside one can see there is no restoration done to the outer walls so I can only hope something will be done and soon.

I took a quick hike up the pathway- (really folks who complained about the horrible, exhausting walk, it only took 12 minutes!!! ) Unfortunately it was closed. As I now read about the Citadel I realize for a small fee I would have had this historic place to my self. Pity I missed out. I walked the outside walls and enjoyed the views and then walked back down the same pathway. If you actually have issues with this hill you are seriously out of shape or have to accept you have mobility problems. If it is mobility then be aware- the WHOLE COUNTRY is covered with rough uneven cobblestones. Every castle, church or historic site is filled with stairways and you will have some difficulties. Take your time, move carefully and enjoy looking about. Stop complaining. By the way, I'm 65.

I committed to the long and winding walk up to the citadel on the hill - it is fairly steep and strenuous and there is nowt to see until you reach the top and the citadel's walls. Once at the top of the hill you have the option of looking at or photographing a fairly desolate but imposing stronghold. It was once the HQ of the city's defensive system but more recently has served as a prison, archive store and medieval tourist complex - now it is shut and looks permanently dead. Decent views from the top of the hill over the old town ......but was it worth the walk? Probably not.

We were lucky we had a car and could drive to the entrance gate, from where there is still a steep climb to the fortress. While it has some interesting architecture and great views unfortunately it was closed the day we were there; not sure if that was just the day we were there or something more permanent.

Does anyone know what time this is actually open at?

I've just searched online for information on this on our local websites and I found out that the Citadel is closed until the end of 2015, due to massive degradation - it needs to be restored as stones from the walls are falling down.
The City Hall is in the process of buying the Citadel, because it now belongs to a private company.
When I visited the Citadel last year it was still open, as I entered the main gate and then the Medieval halls where the restaurant is, and also the interiour square. I'm not sure if there were more places to visit inside the Citadel which could've actually been closed.
If you wish, I can check the Citadel status from time to time and write a new answer as soon as I find something, just let me know in the comments here.

Hello to everyone! Just one question: how can i get there? Where is exactly?
Ciao a tutti! Ma come si fa ad arrivare lì esattamente? Dove si trova con esattezza?
Thanks! Grazie a tutti! :-)

You can get there either by foot or by car.
By foot: from Iuliu Maniu Street, you go right across from the City Hall. There is a sign "Cetatuie" which leads to some stairs through the parc up to Mihai Eminescu Street, where you turn left. After 200 meters or so, there are other stairs throught the woods, and a new sign, leading to the Citadel, on the Citadel Hill.
By car: again from Iuliu Maniu Street, you go right across from the City Hall. Then you go on Colonel Ion Buzoianu Street, then turn left, on Maior Ion Cranta Street, which leads to the Citadel Hill.
So far, I only went there by foot, the path through the woods to the Citadel is an easy and relaxing climb.
