To begin with, I highlight that there are 2 types of doors.
The gate of Terraferma and the gate of the Sea Gate in Zadar. (Photos tend to mix).
The gate of Terraferma is defined by a road and 2 pedestrianized accesses and is located near a port. (Very impressive to see)
The Sea Gate is a pedestrianized access to get into the city.
The door has a beautiful arch composed of stone elements (a lion, 2 cupids, 2 coats of arms...)
Nevertheless, the door is very damaged, the stones are stained, many garbage (butts, cans...) drags around and foul smells.

The Sea Gate or Morska vrata is one of the historic city gates in Zadar that provide access to the old town. This one is also called "Chrysogonus Gate" in reference to the nearby church of Saint Chrysogonus. The gate is quite nice, but not all that spectacular.

The Sea Gate, also known as St. Chrysogon's Gate, is a historic arch located in Zadar, Croatia. It is situated between the ferry port and the market and was built in 1573 to commemorate the victory of the Christian fleet over the Turks at the Battle of Lepanto in 1571. The gate is named after the nearby church of Sant Crisògon and features the Venetian lion and childbirth of a Roman triumphal arch.

It is, for sure, an interesting point of interest. Coming from the beach, The Gate offer you a spectacular entrance to the Old City of Zadar.
Is like suddenly you are invited to pass through some kind of time gate.
We loved it.

When staying in Zadar recently, we walked through the Sea Gate every day at some point walking into the Old Town.

Its beautiful, and there is a board with a little history of the gate and surrounding city walls just next to the small harbour to the left. Have a read!

Small gate in the city walls that leads logically enough from the sea into the heart of the Old Town.

Also known as St Chrysogonus' Gate (Vrata Sv Krševana) this port-facing archway was built in 1573 and sports the Venetian lion and part of a Roman triumphal arch.
Above the Roman cornice on the gate´s land-facing side there is an inscription (a memorial to the 1571 Battle of Lepanto where the Ottoman fleet was defeated off western Greece).

It's part of the old city wall of Zadar.Entrance point if you're entering the city from the pedestrian bridge across the marina. An impressive architectural achievement in the context of its time, slightly less impressive than the Zadar main gate. Only worth making a detour for if you're a history or architecture fan.
