We went into this Orthodox Church for a short visit. There was no entrance fee. And from the outside I didn't recognize it as a church.
It seemed to be a small building and our group filled it. There were no benches. We just looked at all the icons covering the walls.
Since I know nothing of the Orthodox Church culture, I am not sure of the significance of all the interior.
I am glad we entered for the experience.
We only entered the one main room, perhaps the nave with the icon display.

Visiting Zadar from England. I am fascinated by the Orthodox traditions and was excited to visit the church. I was not disappointed whatsoever with a beautiful interior and extremely interesting museum on site, which my father and I were given a tour of by a very kind and knowledgeable gentlemen. A truly blessed experience, highly recommended.

An Orthodox church situated just behind the Forum on a Roman capitol.
It was built in late baroque style at the end of the 18th century in place of a medieval church of the same name, which at the time served the purposes of the Greek Orthodox congregation.
The church contains a wonderful collection of icons dating from the 16th to 18th century.

Build the early years by Greeks but now the church belongs to the Serbian church. If you happen to see it open dont forget to light a candle.

I love greek orthodox church with all of their gold framed, gold leaf iconography.
Ok maybe I just like gold. I always find the icons to be brilliantly painted.
In St Elias's many of the paintings tell stories from the bible. There's a particularly lovely last supper at the very top of the altar.
The church has no pews as the orthodox still stand through the service.
This church is just off the forum behind St Donat and St Anastasia.

San Elias appears to be under renovation, and in it's side yard are three huge portraits of early Roman Gods.

The Church of Saint Elias or St. Elias Church (Croatian: Crkva Svetog proroka Ilije) is a beautiful 16th-century church in the old town of Zadar. Admission is free and it is open daily from 9:00 to 12:00 and from 18:00 to 21:00.
