The Archaeological Museum of Zadar (Croatian: Arheoloski muzej Zadar) offers numerous exhibits from the city's history on three floors. The exhibitions are OK, but nothing special. Considering the entrance fee of €5, a visit would not be a must for me. It is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The building is located directly at the forum and looks a bit neglected from the outside.

The museum was nice and cheap and in a nice place downtown, but my boyfriend and I found it very disappointing. The museum has good reviews so we thought it would be a nice option, but after half an hour we were already outside. It is messy and many display cases are empty, for example. Some interesting things are not explained, or there is only explanation in Croatian. Also it seemed like the receptionist didn't want us there haha. There are no interactive games/videos. We do not recommend this museum.

An interesting and very well arranged museum, telling the history of the surrounding lands from Prehistoric times to the Middle Ages. All exhibits are described in English, with special attention paid to Ancient Rome. Overall, it's not very big, but I liked it and recommend it for a visit if you're in Zadar.

Interesting museum and well-located - from upstairs you have a good view of the forum ruins.
Lots of fascinating artefacts including beautiful mosaics under glass in some sections.
The only bad point is that the descriptions (Croatian and English) are in very small white type on a poorly lit black background to the side of each item, at a slightly awkward angle and rather high up. But for some we just enjoyed the item without learning about it!

Would describe this as a 'no-thrills' museum. No cartoon reimaginings or interactive kids exhibits. Just good honest history and artifacts from the local area. Well worth a visit if you a bit of a history geek. Their roman exhibition is particularly good. All description available in English

Often I am overwhelmed with the size, complexity and detail at major museums. I try and break those museums into multiple visits. In contrast, the Archaeological Museum in Zadar is very approachable and easy to follow. It follows the remarkable history of this one small part of the world. But this "small part of the world" has a fascinating history. It is a microcosm of ancient empires beginning even before the Greeks. I highly recommend it.

This lovely little museum was well worth visiting. it shows the history of the area through artifacts used by the different people who lived in the region. The best part of the Roman part is you can look from the artifacts to the view of the ruins of the Roman forum outside, watch the people milling about, and imagine them doing the same thing in Roman times. The display on sewn boats was also very interesting.

When we visited they had most of the exhibits blocked off, so that you got to see very little for your money. As they were still charging the full entrance price I thought it a bit of a ripoff.

The presentation walks you through mans history. Throughout the ages local archeological finds are shown. Start on the third floor and walk through history to the first floor.
It’s a lot to see. The Location is Right on the main tourist square. I was able to take a coffee break to the square and return to the museum afterwards. A nice gesture.
People would not visit Zadar just for the Museum, but if you are there highly recommend the Museum as a side visit.
