- Jo MLondon, United Kingdom140 contributionsLovely day outPebble & rocky beach with a small amount of sand. Restaurants nearby, somewhere to shower & get changed. Sea was quite cold (it is June) but was great when I got used to it.. was very clean but gets deep quite quickly. Would be helpful to bring something comfy to lay on, sun beds were here but it was busy so they were all taken.Visited June 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 16 June 2024
- fortybefore40United Kingdom356 contributionsA lovely place to swimA nice beach close to Zadar old town. It has plenty of facilities (toilets, cafes beach loungers for hire) The water was clear and not too cold in June when we went so great for a swim and a cool down. Its pebbly so I recommend sandals or swim shoes for walking across the beach.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 11 July 2024
- fabito2015Brasilia, DF672 contributionsBeach with Roman fountainKolovare Beach is the closest to the ancient citadel of Zadar. It is well equipped with showers, bathrooms and wardrobes. But take a shoe, because it has no sand, only stones. The Adriatic Sea is spectacular. There is no cleaner water and a diving is well worth it. And contrary to what is thought, its water is no colder than that of Copacabana. On Kolovare Beach is located an imposing Roman imperial spring of water. It is in perfect state of conservation, even with its two thousand years of existence.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 August 2024

Main beach of the city of Zadar. You can take advantage of free umbrellas (if you arrive early...) and you can possibly rent sunbeds at the price of €10 per day each. There is also some vegetation to find some shade even if the beach is very crowded. We had a good time. The sea is beautiful and you can swim or stand in the shallow water and you can see different fish. There are also fresh water showers. Shoes are a must for entering the water. There are also many kiosks and bars (not very cheap though...).

We disembarked from a cruise ship and it was a last minute addition to our itinerary to visit Zadar due to weather. We decided to walk our way around. It was easy to walk to and find. Not the cleanest, there were tons of cigarette butts everywhere. The beach is pebbly and I found a few shards of glass so make sure to have water shoes. That didn’t stop me from going swimming. The water and beautiful and refreshing in the heat of summer. There are showers to rinse off and changing stations so you can easily get unsalted and change into dry clothes.

Very pebbly beach and lots of pebbles when you go into the sea. Buy a pair of rubber water shoes if you are going. the sea is lovely and clear. You can rent plastic sun beds and if you are early enough can get under a fixed straw parasel. Plenty of places to sunbath on the grass or concrete. I didn't find any sand at this beach but had a lovely day. There is a diving board on the front.

You can't call it a beach.
All piled up, lying on the walls, sharp artificial stones and scattered pieces of bricks, very small (the photos taken by other people don't give an idea... They deluded us 😭) and you have to lie on those sorts of piers/concrete/ pieces of lawn.
For the rest of Zara, to take a bath you have to jump from the "promenade" or use the metal ladders like in a swimming pool.
I think we will never go back to Croatia/Zadar, there are no beaches; few transport services if you don't have a car, even in terms of prices... MUCH higher than Italy for everything.
We have absolutely nothing to envy, on the contrary ❤️.
We recommend the 4-hour mini tour to Sakarun, cost 55 euros per person.

Overestimated location and beach. The "organized" beach bar is ahuri. So much dirt and garbage everywhere. The beach does not have sand or pebble but bright road gravel. The sea is clear and deep waters. Parking is on charge but you can find it for free, there are seats on the coastal road for free. The service is generally moderate to bad for non-Croats.

Handy place to enjoy the sea if you are staying in the city of Zadar and you don’t have a car to drive to other places
The place has public changing rooms, coffee stores, beach volleyball space, an Olympic sea salty water pool, water polo, public showers to rinse the salty water. Some free spaces to set your beach chairs and enjoy the day. Bring your sea shoes the beach is Rocky but like a calm pool. There are some lifeguards. Some places in Kolovare could be cleaner with less broken glass.

Kolovare beach, really good beach for all ages either as couples, families or groups.
Me and my girlfriend found an excellent spot where we could relax and get a tan we was right by the cafe/restaurants which isn't busy but used throughout the day, the prices are reasonable. Not saying very cheap but also not expensive. If you want hot drink it's 11kn which work out at about £1.50.
They have a beach pool where its a enclosed pool but uses the sea its very good to get little kids used to swimming, it is used for swimming races but really good.
We mainly used to sea which throughout the walk you see plenty of opportunity to use the sea its so refreshing.
In the main entrance, there is basketball courts, wash area, diving area (into sea) 2 volleyball courts. Down the road about 5 minutes is a supermarket to get snacks and drinks and 15 minutes down road is a massive spar.
Would highly recommend visiting this beach whilst in Zadar.

We had a nice time here. Clean water, very stoney (like most beaches in Zadar). Beach bars are ok - it’s not very big so expect it to be quite crowded in peak times of day. We went quite early and left at lunch. Has the benefit of being close enough to to Zadar old town you can walk in or out and through the park that’s quite a lovely walk too.

We come here every September, it’s the locals beach and over the last year we have noticed it becoming overly busy with other tourists. Older locals can be unfriendly if you sit in the shade under ‘their trees’.
There are sun loungers for hire but arrive before noon if you want one.
Lovely swimming spot with clear water and stunning views, good bars , showers, toilets, changing area.
No sand, it’s pebbles and concrete like most of the coastline

Kolovare beach is a stunning little rocky area with beach bars above you.
I would highly recommend the use of water shoes in Zadar, getting in and our the stone / shingle beach.
The water is so clear and you can see perfectly to the bottom and I have never been in a sea before where you can float so easily. The sea is a welcomed relief from the high temperatures in Zadar.

Hi we are traveling with an 11 and 13 year old next summer and I was wondering which area is best for kids kalavore beach or zadar old town?

Zadar old town is very built up. Kolovare beach is not pretty but is a convenient walk to the old town.
