- Pana-X8Raleigh, North Carolina133 contributionsGlass art and objects with history from ancient to modernIf you like glass, this is a great place to see a variety of ancient to current glass art and objects. And get some history as well. They have on-site glassmaking, but this was not happening when we were there. The building is on a rise overlooking the harbor, adding to the appeal. The museum store has tempting items for sale.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 October 2023
- Ruby ChiuHong Kong, China25 contributionsAn amazing rainy day alternativeAfter arriving to Zadar and greeted with rainy weather, I was scrambling to look for indoor alternatives, as most activities on the Croatian coast rely on good weather and take place outdoors. I can say that I am very glad I found this museum as not only the staff were friendly and helpful but the museum boats a large space of permanent exhibits and one spacious temporary exhibit. It was fascinating to see all the glass antiques that were preserved from centuries ago. My personal highlights of the museum would definitely be the live glass workshop that runs daily in the mornings, where you can see an experienced craft man creating an array of glass antiques. On top of this, I was amazed by the modern temporary glass exhibit with current generation artists, displaying a beautiful contrast between the old (i.e. exhibits in the permanent museum) and the new.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 November 2023

- Parrothead1970New York City, New York37 contributionsFabulous Museum and Very Glad to Have Experienced ItWe stumbled upon this and have already told our cruise operator this should be a highly recommended excursion. Fabulous museum. Lovely staff. Learned a ton about - well - glass. It’s history, how it is made (little changed over time) and got to watch a remarkable artisan make a glass carafe that was exquisite. We purchased a few of this designs to take home. Very glad we got to tour the museum and will 1000% be back. Fell in love with Croatia on this cruise and will - for certain - come back for a deeper dive.Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 September 2024

Excellent museum. Small size , you willing see and read a lot about glass. All info is provided in English. Air conditioning present . You can find out about Croatia history related to glass , the Roman Empire, Hellenistic times, etc . If you like museums, history’s, you shall like it.

This is an interesting museum with mostly Roman era glass from the 1st to 3rd century AD. It doesn't take long to see everything and the information is also in English too. There is a gift shop with interesting glass souvenirs.

I went to this museum in 2010. It has the best display of ancient glass that I have seen. Better even than the Vatican collection, it literally brought me to tears, such is the profound beauty of these exquisite, ancient pieces. It is quite mind blowing to see the delicacy of the art from ancient times. I became a huge fan of glass after spending time in this small but very comprehensive museum. Highly recommended.

unless you are obsessed with ancient glass, like, completely obsessed with a masters degree in the art of ancient glassmaking, i would skip this. it's like a half museum. the first few displays were interesting, then they were all the same. i love a good museum, and quirky places, but this is not really either.

What an amazing collection of Ancient Glass and to top it off we were able to watch 2 displays - one of bead making and another of glass blowing. This experience topped our visits to Venice in the glass department! Amazing! A must see for sure!

Boring, boring, boring. That's all I can say about the Museum of Ancient Glass. And expensive boring, which is even worse! If your hobby is finding glass or blowing glass, maybe you'd find this place fascinating, some other reviewers here seem to. But if you're an average tourist like me and my wife, gosh it was dull. I mean, there was just a bunch of glass bottles and pieces of glass on display- what's interesting about that?
We didn't know it but we arrived just as the last glass blowing demonstration was finishing on the upper floor and the blower was going home (it was still early in the afternoon!) Maybe if we could have seen that we would have had a better time. But as it was, our visit was pretty much a bust.
We saw a movie there about how the building had been destroyed during the war and they rebuilt it, and I do respect their efforts. But it was just so dull, I could barely focus after the first room...
